  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I think this is a new one: has anyone encountered NavTraffic entries that were inaccurate?

Twice in the past week, I glanced down and noticed the little icon on my nav screen that indicates I'm approaching a "traffic event". In both instances, the system indicated that I was coming up on a blocked lane, and in both cases, there was no evidence of an even slight slowdown when I got there.

I realize there may be timing issues with this system, whereby legitimately-reported events still show up for a while after they've been "cleared", but in both cases cited above, it's unlikely that there was blockage or a slowdown of any sort...neither area is prone to that sort of thing, particularly at the time of day I drove by.

I sure hope NavTraffic doesn't turn out to be a case of the "boy who cried wolf". I'm already skeptical about the utility of XM Radio, and chronic credibility problems with NavTraffic will not encourage me to write a check for ongoing service once the complimentary subscription expires.

The accuracy of traffic reports, unless you are listening to the helicopter guy above, if fairly often late and inaccurate; at least here in NYC. I imagine the XM traffic feature suffers from the same problems.

Has anyone figured how to get audio from the traffic incidents, instead of having to read them on the screen?

I have found that traffic report are useless for the most part. In my area there are many construction zones but that doesn't mean there are traffic congestions. On the other hand when there is a real traffic accident you won't see that on the report for half an hour or much later. Listen to traffic report on the radio is much more reliable.

Me and the wife were headed for Russellville (West Alabama) and the traffic icon showed up telling me about traffic issues in Birmingham, Alabama...why???

I think it is silly and for ME, imo, useless!

Now for the people who live in the big cities...sure!
