  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I get the Navtraffic info to appear on my nav screen (just accident alerts, because NC does not have highway flow data). My issue is that sometimes navtraffic is lit and at other times its not. Any idea on what may be causing this?

I noticed its not the location because sometimes it works in an area and the next day it doesnt. Weird behavior, but was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem to this?

Mine is also sometimes not lit. I guess when it is not lit, there is nothing to report within a reasonable distance, or that it is because the NavTraffic function of the XM is off the air. It always comes back and you have nothing to worry about.

On my recent trip to NYS, there were two times that the NavTraffic was off. Also when I went to Phoenix and Roswell in April, it sometimes would be off. Again, nothing to worry about.

Hadn't really noticed when the icon is on and when it isn't. Maybe a call to XM may answer the question. However, I doubt it. They'll probably send you back to Hyundai who probably won't have a clue. Maybe i'll see if I can find anything out.

I live in an area of no traffic info but this past weekend the traffic icon came on.

It is reporting construction on a road in iowa (230 miles south of me)....

Not sure why this just started....

Prior to this weekend the traffic icon has only come on when I am in a metro area.

Well for me being in Canada (BTW it only works in 3 cities across Canada, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal). I've had my car for 2 months now and am so unimpressed with the NavTraffic. It is ridiculous how bad it is...

I have called XM and spoke to a COUPLE of CSR's of which none new what they were talking about. I've had a traffic icon on the Nav that stayed for over a month before it disappeared. (Highway 25 Southbound) I've passed by there almost everyday! Now a new one popped up of a road having some contruction done. (which is true). Higway 20 near the Cote-de-Liesse exit.

The CSR did not know what to tell me...he said it could stay for a couple of days but not a month.

Thank god for the trial and after seeing it's (lack of) capabilities, I will not renew it after my free 3 month sub.

So, Canadian Gen. 4.6/Tech Package models do not get a 12-month paid subscription the way US Models do?

I believe that the NavTraffic receives its data from other vehicles equipped with GPS, which than tracks there vehicle speed (traffic congestion, mph etc)

I thought I read this somewhere in the manual when I first bought my car back in January......

If your NavTraffic isn't lit up, I think it's due to not having anyone with GPS in the required proximity of your vehicle.

Feel free to correct me if I am incorrect though.....

Correct...We Canadians ONLY get 3 months free!
We also pay more for anything/everything!!!!

Wow! If you are correct, that is some pretty interesting technology. That may also explain why the service is so spotty at best. Good info.

Another great thing I discovered while on my trips. Not only will you see where there are accidents, or traffic back-ups, when you ask to see it, the voice (Jenny) in the car comes on and tells me that there is a problem ahead. ONLY WHEN I'M VERY CLOSE TO THE PROBLEM.

Did you have a destination programmed into the nav?

I've noticed this also, and that's with a destination programmed in! By the time I get the alert, it's generally too late to make a detour. My old GPS unit would alert me even before I started down the road.

I don't remember if I had the destination programmed into the nav, however I probably did. Now that I think of it, I'm sure I did.

This is for the guys from Montreal on here...

Well, well, well...after doing some numerous searches and finally speaking to a knowledgeable CSR here's what the NavTraffic info is for Montreal.

It only works on 4 highways!!!

GMA (Montreal) Highway/Road
HWY-15 from HWY-20 to HWY-40
HWY-25 from HWY-40 to the tunnel
HWY-40 from Décarie to HWY-25
HWY-720 from Décarie to the tunnel

OF course when the CSR asked what I thought about it, I had NO CHOICE to tell her it absolutely suxs!

I also found this on another forum...
"I work in the traffic management industry and I can tell you that Montreal is an ancient city in North American traffic management - it's technology is pretty much non existant except for cameras that operators watch.
I can't see how this system will work well in Montreal as no data is really gathered automatically, it all relies on human input unlike other cities in North America where the info is gathered and posted automatically
."

It looks like I won't be using this feature for a while...
You guys in the States have it good...

Ciao,

I dont get any traffic flow data, but I am not supposed to. I just dont understand why traffic lights up on some days (or trips) and not others. Very strange behavior and of course I will not be renewing navtraffic when my one year is up. Personally I think its terrible especially in NC, but traffic still light up all the time.
