  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

1. After two days on my new 2012 4.6 Genesis Navtraffic stopped working. How do I get the trial for NavTraffic to work?
Do I have to call Sirrius or is this done by dealer?
2. Will NavTraffic reroute directions or just tell me there is upcoming traffic?
3. Do users of NavTraffic feel it is worthwhile?
4. I am in CT near Hartford and travel to NYC frequently.

1. I went throught the same thing. It took about 2 weeks of calling XM everyday before they got it working. You just have to be lucky enough to find the right person who knows what they are doing. Basically, someone put into the XM system that your car doesnt have NAVtraffic. They need to correct that and then they will be able to enable it for you.

2. It will not reroute. It will just notify you of upcoming traffic.

3. It is definitely not worthwhile. I live in Los Angeles, and it is rarely accurate. I wont be adding it once my trial is up.

Maybe it depends on where you live. I'm in Dallas and find NavTraffic very helpful and accurate.

Exactly. NavTraffic pulls data from local governments and other sources, and the accuracy and/or timeliness varies radically depending on where you live. It hasn't been great here in the ATL area, but seems to be improving (marginally).

NavTraffic works best if you have a bit of time before you encounter areas with problems. It takes a while for information from governments, police, whatever tracks traffic in your area, to get into the XM system... and then for XM to do anything with it. If your drive is 2 minutes home-to-freeway and you need to know if the freeway will be moving or not... NavTraffic probably will not be responsive enough. If you have 20+ minutes before getting to freeways then NavTraffic might have enough time to give you advance warning of issues.

I don't use freeways on my commute but I do use them more on weekends or after work sometimes to visit friends a few miles away. Having NavTraffic tell me "yes, this freeway sucks right now" is handy. For those times when it showed no problems and in fact the freeway was really a parking lot... it failed but in reality I was no worse off than if I never had NavTraffic at all. So it can warn me if there are problems but there is no guarantee that it'll warn me of ALL problems. Is "some help" better than "no help at all?" to you - that's what decides if the subscription is worth it or not. And if city officials in your area provide timely data to XM or not.

I've never encountered a reverse scenario - where NavTraffic says the freeway is a mess when in fact it had cleared out and was running fine. So I haven't had "bad information" make me detour yet. To my knowledge anyway.

Extended my XM/Sirius for 6 months through a promotion and when they reset my radio, I lost traffic. Had to call them and finally the 2nd agent was able to restore my traffic icon.

My $150 Garmin, with free lifetime traffic, warns of upcomming slow downs AND reroutes...I assumed the unit in my 2012 would be just as good as the cheapie Garmin. I better keep the Garmin in the car!

Apparently SiriusXM has really messed up the 90-day trial NavTraffic on the new Genesis. NavTraffic on my 2012 5.0 R-spec also quit working after two days and still isn't working. I've had the car two weeks now.

SiriusXM's "Listener Care" is a joke. I called them and the first barely English speaking representative said the Genesis didn't come with NavTraffic. She then said she would need the radio ID for the NavTraffic in addition to the one for the XM radio. I told I wanted to turn in a trouble report. She said "just a minute". Then after 25 minutes on hold I hung up. Total length of call - 45 minutes.

Later I called and asked for tech support. He said 'hang on a minute" and he would check to see what the problem was. After 20 minutes on hold, I hung up. Total length of call - 30 minutes.

Still later I called and got another barely English speaking rep and asked to file a trouble report. 20 minutes later I had a trouble report number. How long will it be until it's fixed I asked. 7-10 business days, she said. Let me speak to a supervisor. 20 minutes later the barely English speaking supervisor came on and I explained the run around. She offered no help and when I asked who I could talk to, who could straighten out an obvious Hyundai-Sirius XM problem, she said no one - just fill out a feedback report - which I did. Total length of call - 50 minutes.

Ironically, later I get an e-mail asking me to fill out a satisfaction survey. When I opened their link, the response was that they were having a technical difficulty and to try back in 2 hours. Two days later, they're still having this "technical difficulty".

I sure wish there was an alternative to Sirius XM other than an iPod and Google Maps.
