If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Guys, Im new in this forum. Just got back from Iraq and I will be in the market to buy a car in november. I looked at Lexus, Infinity (Im trading mine in), Genesis, Acura. Im leaning towards the Genesis V6 and the new Acura TL. Test drove both yesterday and very impress with both cars. I know Acura's reliability, but nothing on Hyundai. Need input from Genesis owners, both cars are brand new and price is very similar. Any input would be appreciated, reliability and dealer service when problems come up is also a concerned. Thanks in advance

Welcome back from Iraq- are you in the service?

Well some people don't like the shape of the newly revised Acura TL.

As far as difference in Acura vs. Hyundai- obvious that Acura name is better known and should have better customer service. But if the Genesis is to be an all around winner- Hyundai will step up in these departments as well.

If you were to compare the major japanese players- I would rate Lexus, then Infiniti, then Acura- until Hyundai make changes they would be next in line (and yes Hyundai
is not japanese- s korean)

I am a big fan and owner of Lexus- but the early reviews show the Genesis is appealing- just wish they also added on to the car- some options that are available in non-US models- we might have to wait for the 2010 models- for the second model year change(s)

Yes In the USMC Reserves but Have been activated on and off since 2002 five times. I have and FX35 which I like but dont need an SUV and the other infinity cars dont get me excited.

Welcome back.

If you have to go back or Afghanistan- I know alot of people will be pulling for you.

My personal thoughts are we have to do this- granted it is not my life on the line- but
I was a SGT in the USAF and served from 1976-1980. If I had to go into conflict- it
would be a no brainer- go where the Commander-in-Chief says to go- besides this is
now and at my time- an all volunteer service.

As far as the cars- just do a test drive of both cars- try to forget about the badge on the hood- and honestly decide which feels better in your opinion.

Just food for thought....
Do you have any issues with FWD vs. RWD?
When you test drove both, did you have "gut" reaction to either?
Do you need/want the additional space of the Genesis?
Based on what I have read, Hyundai reliability is comparable or better than most major manufacturers....I would not let that, specifically, deter me.
Are there little things about both cars that make them easier to live with day-to-day that you noticed/liked (e.g. both front windows on the Genesis are auto up and down; the Genesis sunglass holder is in the perfect place**, console layout, storage bins available, etc.).
I think both cars are good cost-to-value but I think the Genesis has opened a whole new chapter on the cost/value ratio (obviously I am bias, being a new owner).

(( FYI ** I had the 2001 TL/V6 and was shocked that, after the 2003 redesign, the sunglasses holder up by the rear view mirror was no longer there - I asked the salesman and he said "people could just put their sunglasses in a door bin". I did really like the 2001 TL though...for it's conservative styling/feature content but the current TL is a totally different car (interior layout, etc.) - except probably the same V6))

I think the best advice is to keep reading on-line and repeated test drives until the choice is very clear....and you have until Nov., right?

Good luck in your choice, please let us know what you decided...

P.S. Semper Fi (I retired with 22 years...but my 22 was under better/peacetime conditions. I did go forward with every deployment in the '90's except Somalia (my boss went). But nothing to compare with the current Afghan/IQ situation. I was USAF but worked joint duty with the USMC RADBN's. You have my respect and best wishes! BE WELL and GOD BLESS).

Thanks guys for the advice....yes Im returning my lease late november, so i got some time..I drove both on the same day, they are both a little different but both very nice rides...as far as RWD or FWD I didnt noticed much of a diference but again Im not a speed racer or enthusiast....Im just looking for a nice ride that rides nice and good service if I need it....but I know is going to be btwn the Genesis and the TL

another thought I know you have to turn your car in november...

but if the genesis coupe is released prior to anticipated feb 09- and if you put down a
non refundable deposit of maybe upwards of $1K- a hyundai dealer may and all depends
on connections and/or how desperate the dealership is- car dealers have been known
to give a "confirmed buyer" a rental/loaner car from their lot- as a temporary ride until
your new car arrives on their lot- since if you do not need 4 Dr's- the coupe might
be the deal- granted no V8 but an optional V6

Great Idea!

However, Hyundai doing this? I'd say it's a longshot... but a worthy question to your dealer. I've seen this done at both our local BMW and Mercedes Dealerships.

My grandmother wanted an S65 AMG Benz (yea odd car for a 70 year old woman, lol)... but they weren't available yet. Brumos of Jacksonville loaned her out an S63 until her S65 came in about 5-6 months later.

I do need a 4 door since I Have two teenagers, so the coupe is out...thanks for all the advice guys

i know like i said it might be hard but ....

offerring a non refundable deposit would help... shows committment on getting a new car

Who would be stupid enough to offer a "non-refundable" deposit? That's asking to be held up.

Comittment is signing a contract - let the multi-millionaire dealer offer the sweetner....

realpix...

let's see if a dealer accepted the offer of providing a loaner car until a car that exactly met the customer's needs arrived on their lot- and the car would not arrive for maybe 2 or 3 months- would it not be acceptable to take a non-refundable deposit- I would say... Yes!

if you leave a refundable deposit- what is there to say- the person just says... later and has a free car for months.

Thank you for your service, KenT and Sergio!

I think the only BIG advantage you'll have with the Acura is service. However, I've been hearing a lot of people say that their service with the Genesis is beyond that of an average Hyundai. So that difference may not be as big as I think...

I would also imagine the Hyundai Genesis is a bit more comfortable, in a soft, luxurious way - than the Acura TL. There's a discussion going on about these two vehicles in the Comparison forum - you should check it out..

Thanks Hyundai Genesis...

Off topic...

But this reminds me of something that happened to my father and I a little over 2 years ago during Fourth of July- we were at a Luau in Waikiki (Hale Koa Hotel- which is run by the US Govt for active duty/retirees of the major branches of service)- just when the luau was finished and before that they had a few funny things presented by some service men and women- but at the end- they asked- who was serving in iraq/afghanistan- to please stand- alot of usmc/army/navy/uscg stood up; then they asked vietnam people to stand; then korea and wwii- my father who is retired usn (21 years)-stood up for vietnam, korea and wwii.

What shocked me was after the luau was over- I am not lying- at least 20+ service men-
I would say mostly usmc- asked me- would it be okay to say hello and shake my father's hand- for his service during those wars- even now just thinking of this- is very touching

KenT I have always made a point to shake hands with the men that went before us. Im very proud to recognized them for their sacrifice. Off topic I had stayed at the Hale Koa myself went I first got back. Very nice place.

Back on topic, I went to a Hyundai dealer yesterday and they had several Genesis rebadged with the wheel center caps that you get out of e-bay and Korean imports. Guess how much mark up for these items, 295.00 for the rebadging of the back of the vehicle, they claimed 1,400 for custom wheels (but is only the wheel caps!) bottom line $45,000 for the V6 with Tech/NAV PKG:eek:l

that is CRAZY...

I could get you a V8 Tech Package for at least $3K Less...

that badging is not worth that kind of bump in pricing

I know, I told the salesman that I would not pay for that and it was very sad they would scam folks like that. I will be going to the auto show this saturday in Anaheim and look at was out there.

have fun looking in anaheim- if you need help in finding a deal- let me know
