  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone...ok here goes...have a 2015 Ultimate. For about 4 months now I notice a severe vibration when I get up to about 80 mph, it got worse when I had to apply the brakes forcefully to quickly slow on the highway. I have replaced the brakes all the way around, and also replaced all the rotors. I had the alignment done and had the tires rotated and balanced. After that, the vibration doesn't seem to be in the steering but I can still feel that vibration at highway speeds. Only when I get up to that speed (70-80mph) is when I feel it...WHAT THE HELL IS CAUSING THAT??? I cannot figure it out ...please help!!

Could be tires if they were static balanced. I had vibration on mine at about that speed and balancing did not help. I lived with it and put new tires at 33,000 miles and vibration went away. Sometimes tires are not as round as you think and under stress at speed thing happen.

Could be other problems in the drivetrain too.

Where do you feel the vibration? In the steering wheel or the car body? Several people have had driveshaft issues...

Roadforce balance the tires? Have you had the CV joints looked at?

The prior owner of the vehicle may have rammed a curb, hit the ditch or both, slightly bending a rim or damaging the belts in the tire. You'll never know on a used car. The tech balancing the tires also may never look for those issues unless you ask him to. It's happened to me in the past.

I bought a 09 Genesis 3.8 sedan two months ago and I have the same problem since I bought it. The car glides at 55 mph but the moment I take it over 60 mph I feel vibrations in steering and I also feel the road a lot. I felt it during the test drive but attributed it to poor road quality (Jersey) then. Later I noticed the same on smooth segments of I95. Weirdly, the issue went off when I hit 85+ mph. I took it to the dealer and they said everything is fine. Sadly in 3 weeks of buying the car, I had a nail on a rear tire and had to replace it as it was too close to the sidewall. Got the alignment checked then and it was off on all wheels so I got the alignment done hoping it will fix the vibration but the issue still persisted.

I took the car to my mechanic to check rims for damage and guess what, all four rims are badly bent. I got the rims fixed but the car is still in the shop as an idiot customer backed into my car propped up on jacks. Thankfully, it was just a minor dent and it didn't fall off of the jacks. I am hoping to get my car back before weekend and will update after weekend tests.

Thank you 1FstYota! Been having close calls since I got the car. A month ago during one of the winter storms here, a tree almost fell on the car. The tree branches were above my parking spot and trees were falling down all over Northeast due to the weight of the snow. I was shoveling and trying for an hour to get the car out of my spot for fear of the same and just as I was backing out of my spot, a huge branch fell. Like in the same case with the jacks, could have been much worse!

Dude that is nuts. Well in a sense your actually really lucky.

Yep! It could have been the car or even myself under that tree. Well, I picked up my car today and I am going on a 200 mile trip this weekend. Should be a good test to find out if the vibrations are gone.

I have found that the Genesis is very susceptible to vibration from unbalanced wheels/tires. Check the rims aren't bent and the Alignment is OK, but most importantly have the wheels/tires Roadforce Balanced. It makes a huge difference over balancing off the car.

I would road force balance the tires and look for rim damage. My Genesis actually had a warped rim when I purchased it and it was replaced under warranty. I don't think this is common. Discount Tire found the problem and the dealer verified it.

UPDATE: I drove 500 miles this weekend and gotta say, the issue seems to be the rims. Now that it has been fixed, the vibrations are significantly reduced and I did not feel any vibration in fact at the steering. It is not all smooth sailing though as I still feel a notable difference over 65 mph. I strongly suspect it is due to all the potholes in Jersey roads from this winter. I am planning to re-align and rotate the tires in a couple of months and hoping that should fix it. Maybe I'll road-force balance it too per CanukV6 and lobsenza suggestions.

Rotating may change the charateristics of the problem and may make you think it disappeared. Generally, an out of balance rear tire will not be felt as much as a front tire. In my case, it was a rear rim. The ride was OK, but not as smooth as it should be. Discount tire found the bad rim. Road force balancing should show the issue. Try to watch them balance the tires and look for an out of round rim as the tire spins. Alignments are a good idea, but not likely to solve a vibration problem.
