  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As the title states, I need new tires. Will be going on a 2010 Hyundai Genesis 3.8, size is 235/50/18. I have read way too many reviews on tirerack and have pretty much settled on three tires, all at the top of their respective category. I do mostly highway driving and around town, probably evenly split 50/50 w/ about 20K miles a year. These will be on year round so winter traction is important as well as a smooth comfortable drive. I will not be tracking this so I'm not overly concerned about uber high performance, but don't want to rock a piece of junk set of tires either. Without further ado, please vote on the following tires and include the ever important "why" All prices below include installation/tax

Hankook Ventus S1 noble2 - $867

Continental PureContact with EcoPlus - $953

Kumho Ecsta PA31 - $764

I think you might be better off with a Grand Touring All-Season tire, instead of a Performance tire.

Be careful when looking at surveys:
  • It is OK to compare tires within a category, but not sure that the ratings are valid across tire categories, because tire owners may not be familiar with tires in other categories. But this depends greatly on the person responding to the survey.
  • Make sure you look at Total Miles Reported when evaluating survey results. Tires with low Total Miles may have results skewed by a small number of responders, some of which may be tire company employees. Also, some tires are great with full tread, but poor when tread falls below 50%.

Like they stated. Take reviews with a grain of salt. Also if the tire company owns other brands, look at those and cross compare similar tires as well. Many use the same compounds etc. Almost like a you have a lincoln navigator and ford expedition. Same thing but one is a bit more money. The tires i have are nearly identical in compound and technologies used in the popular Continental DWS but a considerable difference in price.

Didn't realize this was posted in the appearance thread. Mods, please move to wheels/ tires performance thread

I purchased my '11 Genesis about eight weeks ago. With 36K on the Dunlops, I was wanting to go to a grand touring tire that also performed well in the snow. I eventually opted for the Continental Pure Contacts. Total cost was $880 which included a four wheel alignment. That was a month ago and I'm very pleased so far. They also carry a 70K warranty.

Well yesterday I ordered a set of the Hankooks through a local tire shop. They were the only place that was willing to order any tire I asked and gave me a quote on the spot for. I went this route instead of ordering through tirerack so I could keep the lifetime balance & rotation service. OTD price was quoted at $886.48. Getting them installed on Tuesday!

Hey ya’ll…I didn’t know where to post this, so I thought I’d drop it right here.

I finally got new tires for my 2011 4.6 two months ago and wanted to offer a report. I replaced the stock Dunlops that had 29k and change on them with Pirelli P-Zero Neros.

I LOVE THEM. The reduction in road noise was immediate and outstanding!! Now I’ve got about 5k miles on them and they’re looking good. Noise levels remain low, the tactile feel of the tires is good and firm, and I’ve no complaints. I ended up going with the Pirellis purely because of the $60 cash rebate (that was the tiebreaker).

At any rate, they’re good shoes and I wanted to thank everyone for all of the collective braintrust on the Genesis tire issue. Thanks!

The Falken PT-722 is a superior tire to any of the ones listed for the E-Class, Genesis, and just about any mid/large luxury sedan. Very quiet. Great grip. Actually designed for our type of vehicles. Visit their site and read about them. Put a set on my W221 S and love them.

These are not rated very well in Consumer Reports. Also some other reviews state that these tires are noisy.

I do not go by Consumer Reports. My comments were on my own personal experience. I have had all three of the tires listed in the poll. The Falken Azenis PT-722 is the best and the only one I have purchased a second time. It is the best Touring tire I have ever purchased. They are the quietest tires I have ever owned. I saw a few negative user reviews, but, they are few and far between. Of the three tires listed above, the Hankook Ventus is pretty good, but, I found all of them to be far noisier than the Azenis.

I'm in a similar spot. My dunlops will need to be replaced within the next few months. they seem loud, have little tread left and only have about 28k miles on them.

I swap out the wheels in the winter with Blizzaks, so snow performance isn't a huge deal, unless we get either an early or late storm where I didn't yet make the switch.

I don't drive the car aggressively so was looking at Grand Touring Tires to get better mileage still with good handling and longevity. I've "narrowed my choices down" to:

Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus and Continental Pure Contact with Eco Plus.

Have you considered either of these tires and which would be a "better tire"?

David

I bought Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires and I have to say they seriously improved the cars ride and handling. Well worth the extra $$.

I bought Michelin Pilot Super Sports and find them well worth the money. Everything about the ride and handling improved both wet and dry.
