Hi Folks -

I have a 2012 Genesis Black Noir Pearl on order/transit from a dealership a few states away. I would like to order a rear deck lid spoiler for it and I need to enter the correct paint code. Anyone have it? I have attached the picture of where you find it on your car (the ID badge is on the inside of the door).

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Newman

Paint code for Black Noir is AF, at least for the 2009. Not sure if the Black Noir has changed since then. Yours says 5T for the paint code according to the pic. What site are you ordering the spoiler? I ask since some sites have a guide that will tell you the paint code of the vehicle once you enter in vehicle info.

Thanks Scottdk. The picture that I attached is not from my car. It is a generic in case someone did not know where the paint code was located. I am looking at www.carid.com for the spoiler. In fact, that web site listed AF as the code for 'Phantom Black Pearl'. I am really trying to determine if this paint is the same as 'Black Noir Pearl' or not. I suspect that they are different.

I can't actually look at my own paint code because my car is still at the dock - it won't arrive at the dealer for another two weeks.

Not sure if you've seen my thread on this, but I purchased a small lip spoiler from Woodview.com and show installing tips.

The paint code is AF. I got my pre-painted lip spoiler from http://www.jaeeagle.com/. The cost was $139 including free shipping. Installation instructions came with it. Just use the 3M tape mode, DO NOT DRILL HOLES IN YOUR TRUNK. It was very easy. Took about 15 minutes to clean trunk, place spoiler in proper position, put blue painter's tape at various locations to insure proper installation once 3M tape covering removed and then about 30 seconds to install. Piece of cake.

Thanks Scottdk - I did read your post awhile ago. In fact, your work and pictures inspired me to do the same. My '12 is also black on black. I was just looking for confirmation that the Black Noir Pearl for 2012 is the same paint code as before. Have you seen the paint code on a '12? I hate to be so anal but I would like to have the spoiler arrive when my car does so that I can install on day one.

Thanks Darth. I went to the site but could not find any entries for Genesis sedan. In fact - when I enter Hyundai they don't list any Genesis models... Can you point me in the right direction?

Also - can you confirm from personal experience that the paint code is still AF?

Thanks,
Newman

I can confirm for my '11 which I bought in Dec '10 and all previous years that the code is AF. It's on my door sticker and sales paperwork. I would assume it is the same for a '12. I'm sure your salesperson could find out that information for you. I realize after seeing your response that I too did not find the Genesis info on that site when I first came upon it in March of this year. I called them and they said that they were in the process of updating their system. Evidentally that hasn't happened yet. But, they do carry it and you can order it over the phone. I ordered it and received it at the price I quoted you in about five days. Here's their number: Call Toll Free: (800) 626-3367. I spoke to Vicky Camfield. Good luck.

I have the rear lip spoiler from CarID and my paint code was also AF for Black Noir Pearl. I haven't heard of Phantom Black. I guess it must be new.

I just found out tonight from another forum member that an image of my car was being used on an EBay to sell a spoiler from a place called Advanation http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hyun...Q5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_5047wt_1167. The price is $139 painted. This isn't where I got mine and I don't think the brand is the same. I believe mine was the JKS model on CarID. You can check out my photo album to see what it looks like.

Thank you kindly. I just ordered my spoiler from CarID. The dealership confirmed for me that the code for our paint is still AF in 2012.

You should feel good that your ride looks so awesome that it is being copied. I have to admit that your wheels rock so much that I just purchased a set today. I looked everywhere to get something else but nothing came close to the look of the Vertini Hennessy's for the money. Hopefully you take this as a compliment to your taste and don't see it as plagiarism!

Hey Newman, good call on the Vertini's, I'm sure you will be happy with them. As long as you live 100+ miles away, we're all good. As the old saying goes, "This town ain't big enough for the two of us", or something like that. I've been real happy with them but honestly I was on the fence when first considering them. They ended up growing on me real soon and don't regret the decision.

Are you going with the staggered fitment in 20" diameter? Also will you be lowering the car at all?

LOL.. Totally get it! What region do you live in? I am in SoCal. Even if you are here as well it is a big place.

I purchased 19x8.5 all the way around. I don't plan to lower the car at this point. However, it looks to me from pictures that the Rspec is lower than the other Gene's already. Once it arrives and I can really drive it for awhile I will determine if I want to lower it. I purchased Conti ExtremeContact DW's at 245/45 front and back.

Two other mod's that I am contemplating: Magna flow mufflers (only) and a headliner. I read from Scottdk that the muffler's only give a great sound whereas I am afraid that the full cat back system is more than I am looking for sound-wise. For the headliner I am requesting quotes for black alcantara headliner installs. If I can find one reasonable I may pull the trigger. When I saw the headliner in the Equus I was impressed.

Cheers!

Let me know what you get for price on the headliner, maybe it would interest me, cause I sure liked the headliner in the Equus. I'm actually planning on getting a price on "Genesis" stitched into the head rests too. I'd like to color match the brown on the doors and dash for the stitching, I think that'd look great. As far as my exhaust, I think it sounds the same as the Catback kit in terms of volume, but how accurate is listening to these over a computer? I'd get the catback if I did it again. Would only cost me another $150 or so for the catback and I could put that on myself since there's no welding involved (bolt on) vs paying to have the mufflers and tips installed at the exhaust shop.

Hey Scottdk - Will definitely share all pricing quotes on headliners that I receive. Your proposed head-rest stitching sound nice.

With regard to the muffler vs cat-back - thanks for clearing that up for me. The original thread with your muffler story is so long now that I misunderstood you! I thought that I was reading stories about the full cat-back system waking the neighbors.. I am looking for the more subtle V8 growl/burble without the drone or excessive noise. Once Magna comes out with the rspec Cat-back I will have to decide if I wait to hear others' reviews or take the plunge myself first. And the prospect of installing it myself really appeals as well!

I'm in NorCal actually. Do you come across many Genesis' on the road down there and if so, any of them modified in any way?

I have the Magnaflow cat-back on my car and you will definitely hear it in the passenger compartment. There is a drone that you either love or hate. I've gotten used to the sound now but at first I wondered if I had made a mistake.

I've written in other threads that my installer suggested installing an X-pipe muffler called Tru-X from Magnaflow which essentially wraps the X-pipe like that which comes with the cat-back system into a muffler. This quiets things down particularly in the passenger compartment as the X-pipe is located just below while still providing the the exhaust flow benefit of the X-pipe. It's a 2-in 2-out muffler that would simply replace the X-pipe if you have one or the stock one which is an H-pipe if I recall correctly but I'm not positive as it's been a while. I still have it down in the garage. The cat-back itself uses a pure X-pipe. Here's a link to it if you're interested:

Magnaflow Tru-X Muffler
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=9386

You could just get the Tru-X muffler and a couple of universal mufflers with tips without buying the cat-back system but for the price of the cat-back versus the individual pieces, it was worth it to buy the full system. I got mine a ways back from Auto Anything for around $675 with Free Shipping. You will also get larger diameter pipes with the cat-back. Then you can just buy a Tru-X to replace the X-pipe that comes with the cat-back. Your only other cost will come from installation unless you do it yourself. I decided to have mine welded instead of using the bolt-on clamps it comes with for just a better, custom install and to reduce any exhaust leaks so it cost more for install.

As I've become accustomed to the sound, I haven't investigated making any change but a time may come when I do. I would hope that it would quiet things down a bit, especially the drone, while still providing a nice growl when getting on the accelerator.

Hey Jastylr -

I don't see many Genesis where I live. There are a few but all stock that I can see.

Thanks for the heads up on the X-Pipe and the noise expectation from the full cat-back.

Question - When you installed your Vertini's did you have problems with the tire pressure monitoring sensors? I ordered new sensors from Tire rack but the local installer said that they won't fit the wheels.

Cheers,
Newman

Actually, my tire guy installed the stock sensors from my previous wheels onto the Vertini's. No problems with the installation. Are the new sensors you ordered different in any way?
