If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I recently purchased the 2012 Genesis w/ Premium and they are using 18 inch OEM tires. I've been reading a lot of bad reviews concerning the tires, what should I do? I currently only have 180 miles on the car, should I try and trade the tires in for some different ones? If so what is the best tires for the Genesis that are reliable and will keep the car nice and quiet when driving?

I live in Florida so there isn't any snow or anything here. I was thinking of buying my tires from discounttire.com due to their great warranties so if you could look there and maybe point out the best ones that would be great!

I appreciate the help!

Thanks, Dominic

I have a 2009 V6 Premium with 18' rims. I recently changed my tires into Bridgestone Turanza Serenity, and I am very happy about that. They are quiet, the handling and general comfort improved.

Given that you have the 2012 with the much improved suspension, I personally would drive on the Dunlops for at least 10.000 miles. They probably won't last much more than 20,000 miles anyway (some people more, some less).

If you do want new tires (now or later) the above mentioned Bridgestone Turanza Serenity are very comfortable, but the 2009 suspension that lysykon has is a bit harsh and needs a super comfortable tire, maybe at the expense of handling and steering precision. For the 2012 with improved suspension, I would consider one of the premium Michelin tires, such as the Michelin Energy Saver A/S, which I believe is now OEM on the 2012 Genesis V6 models with Tech Package (and 4.6).

I have the original Dunlops on my 2010 Genesis with/Premium purchased last July 2010. They have 19,900 miles on them with quite a bit of tread left. I would keep them until they wear down.

I have a 09 4.6 and it got to be very noisy and I could feel every little bit of unevenness on the road. I swapped recently for the Michelin Energy Saver and couldn't be happier. The road noise is reduced to almost nothing and it has smoothed out the harsh ride considerably. I wouldn't have believed that new tires could have made that much difference but I feel like I driving a NEW different car. It finally feels like a luxury car.

My Dunlops were going strong at 22,000 miles with plenty of tred left, and then very rapidly experienced extremely uneven wear on the front left tire, so decided to replace them.

I have 25,000 Km (15500 miles) on the original Dunlops on a 2009.
I noticed uneven tire wear on 1 tire when I bought the car with 17,000 Km (10,500 miles).
They remain quiet though and steering feel is good. Great in the corners. No pull or drift.
I was wondering just how much steering feel and sharpness would be sacrificed by going with the Energy Savers?
They are classified as a premium passenger tire not even a grand touring tire, so to me it might be a lot to give up to gain the comfort over bumps and bad roads.

Ghurka you are exactly correct: with the softer, more comfortable tires you DO give up sharp turning and road feel. It looks as if you can have either performance or comfort but not both at the same time. I choose comfort. First I changed the tires on my 2010 to Michelins and then I bought the 2012...so I made a choice to go for comfort but I do miss the sharper turns

If you go with the Michelins mentioned above you will do better on steering and handling than with the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity, but still get a more comfortable tire than the Dunlops. If you happen to have the 17" wheels, try the Michelin Primacy MXV4 (doesn't seem to come in sizes for Genesis 18" wheels).

If I am reading your post correctly you say your 2012 Genesis has 18" wheels. If this is correct the tires on the wheels should be Michelin Energy
Saver A/S. The tires that you have been reading about on this forum are Dunlop's. If you have Michelins on the car I would not change them as IMO that is one of the best tires that you can have on the car.
If you are just bent on getting rid of the tires make sure the tire dealer gives you something in trade for your tires. Discount Tire is one dealer that I know will give you something for your tires , the fewer the miles the better the amount you will get for them but once again I say if Michelin's are on the car you have a good tire save your money and enjoy the ride.

Thank you, I will see what tires I have since I honestly don't know. But yes they are 18 since the premium package comes with the 18" tires. The ride is really good for me so I was just worried later on about experiencing what a lot of people are on this forum.

People have complained about the Dunlop tires contributing to the harshness of the 2009-2011 ride. The 2012 suspension is much more comfortable, and it doesn't make that much difference what tires you have on them. If they are worn out, or have very uneven wear, then replace them. You worry too much.

Likely you have the Michelins...

Just quick word of advice...life is alot easier if you worry about solving the problems you actually have. You are only allocated a certain amount of worry in your lifetime before you implode, use it wisely....

The good thing is with all of the good advice, I sure know what not to get when the time is near.
