  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just took delivery of a new 4.6, Champagne Metallic. This car spent 2 months on the dealers lot before I bought it. Today it looks great but I thought while I have the energy and enthusiasm, I'd like to get a good coat of wax or polymer on the finish...

Many of u folks have done a great job detailing ur cars.......

Looking for some advice on how to apply and what to use for this first detailing of this new car .....went to Meguiar's site but the don't talk specifically about what to do for a brand new car.

Thanks for any help and suggestions. :)

Been using this for a couple of years now.
The results speak for themselves.

that color is very good at hiding swirls and fine scratches. If that were my car i would first wash it (contrary to popular opinion i use car wash soap not Dawn dish washing soap as i do not want to strip ALL protectants from the cars finish) then clay the flat surface areas (is. hood, roof, trunk lid, tops of fenders, quarter panels, bumper, etc) with a meguiars clay bar and quick detailer (or mothers, whatever brand you prefer all the clays work the same imo). then i would use the meguiars Ultimate Polish on all the panels and top it with meguiars ultimate wax. i read alot of advice/opinions on the internet detail/body shop forums on a regular basis. what i have found is there are SO MANY types of waxes, brands, etc. it can be confusing. i have used all different brands products but i always catch myself back at meguiars. there must be a reason for it. i think it's quality vs price vs availability vs wide spectrum of products vs reputation. in the end they have it all and you can get it at most stores that carry auto supplies. the only thing i could recommend beyond the meguiars is the Chemical Guys Pete's 53 wax. i am impressed by the long lasting results (from what i have read posted by forum members conducting primative testing of multiple wax's longevity) CG Pete's 53 provides. it's pricy but it looks pretty good. i may do a test of my own with CG vs Meg's ULW as i am learning the Meg's ULW is lasting quite long...

PS. meguiars Ulitmate line of products (Ultimate compound, Polish and Wax) seem to cover most of our needs with three products from one manufacturer, which is readily available and not priced out of this world. I would also suggest in investing in a good DA polisher like a PC 7424, Meguiars polisher or Griot's garage machine and some Lake Country CCS foam pads (Orange, Green, and Red cover compound, polish, wax. if you have many defects in your paint you can get the compound yellow pad for those but it will need a good cleaner/ polish of swirl remover afterwards) it will cut your detail time in half and the results are amazing as hand polishing vs machine (even with one that will NOT burn the paint like a DA) are very noticable in physical appearance and wear and tear on your body.

Try checking our autogeek.net or autopia.org, but be prepare to have your head spinning if you go there, people are CRAZY about product choices and swear "their" choice is the only one. Me? i think there are so many choices i keep it simple lol.

Thanks for the advice....THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR! do u still think I need to clay the surface.....surface to me looks really good.

Thanks

My car was on the lot for about 45 days when I purchased it. Applied it to the new Genesis and the results were as expected which is to say great. I’ve used this product since the purchase of my 2007 G35 in 2006. It is to my experience the shiniest longest lasting product I’ve ever used. It’s a bit pricey but you won’t be disappointed.

Sorry...this is "all" you need.

Thanks Ernie3647.....looked at this stuff.....sounds good....the description leads you to believe this bonds with the paint so it last for 5 years....I guess my only concern is you use this stuff and it doesn't work or look well, there is no way to get it off....

glad it's worked for you...I need to give it a closer look.....

5 year protection sounds great!

Anyone else using this product?

Thanks

"One time permanent product makes routine waxing obsolete". Opti-Coat is based on a resin pre-polymer that we manufacture and once it is applied, it cross links and reacts with urethane and other clear coat paints to form a permanent film. Opti-Coat has better chemical resistance, scratch & mar resistance, and release properties than any automotive coating in use. Like a regular clear coat, Opti Coat lasts indefinitely unless it is removed by polishing, sanding, or paint removers. It is NOT a sealant or a wax. It is a permanent coating!

From what I have heard it's excellent and a VERY long lasing protection.
The application of the product goes on very similar to applying a sealant.
This is applied on top of your CLEAN clear coat and becomes permanent!
It's actually much HARDER than your factory OEM clear coat once it cures.
ALL imperfections need to be to be corrected BEFORE Opti-Coat is applied.
The 2.0 version iis available to consumers now that it has a longer curing time.
The prior version was ONLY sold to detailer's ONLY after they signed a waiver.

"Opti Coat has a hardness of 6-7 when initially applied and that "can" reach 9H when fully cured/dehydrated.
Some of this will depend on the surface it is applied to, of course...but diamonds are 9H so...it's pretty hard."

I am all about LOW maintence and bang for my buck, be it choice of cars or a sealant etc. Myself I will be putting this on either the 2012 Genesis R-Spec or the 2012 Jeep srt8 when it hits showrooms in july or august. I love each auto for different reasons: The Jeep for 465hp and 4x4 and would not have to buy winter tires and panaramic sunroof and over 800 watt sound system sould give the Lexicon a big challenge...I considered the 300c srt8 but the outdated 2012 style looks like a loaf of bread rectangle to me.

The R-Spec I like the fact of 8 speed tranny vs outdated 5 speed on Jeep. The Genny gets 16-25mpg vs Jeep 13-18mpg. (even though it has gas saving engine to shut off 4 cylinders tech), Interior of Genny I prefer. The Genny less to likely rollover than a SUV type & better warranty. Both will retail close to the same loaded. The Jeep is 1100 lbs heavier as well...
Hope this helps, ttyl. :)

I would make sure you replace/remove any logos before you wax the car. The replacement wings will stick a lot better to an unwaxed surface.

I have been using Zaino Products since 2000. Awesome!

Auto Detailing TIPS

STRIP THE OLD WAX
Wash the car, going top to bottom, with Dawn Ultra® liquid detergent.
Thoroughly rinse the car with a pressurized hose and spray nozzle. Make sure all detergent soap is gone. Leave Dawn in the kitchen since you'll never use it again on your car. Dry completely with chamois or cotton towel.

JUST APPLY & LET DRY!
Zaino Z-CS Clear Seal Clear Seal was quite fundamental - an advanced total synthetic polymer protectant that is simply wiped on, and that's it! No buffing. No final wipe down. Simplicity at it's best. Just apply & let dry.
Z-CS dries clean and without residue. Use Z-CS on paint, glass, wheels, plastic, or trim for the protection, durability, slickness, and gloss that Zaino is most popular for. All surfaces are protected against potentially damaging exposure to sun or ultra-violet light with our best UV inhibitors.
For up to 9 months protection, use Z-CS to top coat Zaino Show Car Polish protectants, or use Z-CS by itself. You can even use Z-CS as a top coat to add high-gloss and improved durability to ANY other manufacturer's product. Z-CS extends the gloss and durability of any previously applied products. Z-CS should never be applied over uncured waxes. I use cotton wax applicator. Less than 1/4 ounce of Z-CS will complete an average sized vehicle.

Use between CS Clear Seal after car wash
Z-6™ Ultra Clean is the first detailing spray designed to be a quick detailer and a polish enhancement in one. Z-6™ Ultra Clean detailing spray is a very important component of the Zaino Show Car Polish system. Formulated with the same polymer-based gloss enhancers, Z-6™ Ultra Clean dramatically boosts and intensifies all Zaino Show Car Polish finishes.

Z-6™ Ultra Clean contains seven optical clarifiers and our unique wet gloss enhancers to increase your car's wet-looking, mile-deep Show Car Polish shine. We highly recommend it for fast, safe removal of water spots, finger prints and light soil from painted surfaces, without scratching. Use between CS Clear Seal after car wash. I also apply to windows weekly for great water removal. Use can use a cheaper detail spray like Maguire’s detail spray.

Zaino Snow White Borderfree Towel: 4 pack
Recommend use with detail spray after car wash and dry with chamois between applying Zaino Z-CS clear seal again.

Tire shine
Recommend Turtle Wax Wet n Black tire shine with a wood trim paint applicator brush. Spray on brush and apply.

Headlight Lens cleaner if lenses get a film on them. Use Meguiar's PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner and Polish -10 oz.
Apply with wax applicator and wipe off immediately (do not wait to dry) with cotton towel.

Interior Detail
Recommend using Z-9 Leather Soft Spray Cleaner contains the finest blend of emulsifiers, mink oil and synthetic lanolin to safely clean all fine leather surfaces. Alkaline and detergent-free, Z-9 Leather Soft Spray Cleaner gently lifts soil and stains without harming the dyes, clear coat protection or natural oils in leather. Z-9 Leather Soft Spray Cleaner is so gentle, it helps prevent premature leather damage, including cracking, shrinking and drying Perfect for all leather products. Excellent for vinyl too.
Apply Z-9 one section at a time and work the solution into a nice lather with a sponge. If your leather is heavily soiled, use an upholstery (interior detailing) brush. When finished scrubbing, be sure to remove all cleaner from the surface with a damp towel. Do not use an excessive amount or allow cleaner to dry without wiping. Dry the leather with a clean, dry cotton towel. Allow your leather to dry thoroughly before applying Z-10.

Z-10 Leather in a Bottle™ leaves a non-sticky, greaseless, stain repelling, natural luster and restores the supple feel and smell of new leather. Does a great job on vinyl interiors and dashboards too. One whiff and you will agree its Leather in a Bottle™. We believe this product has no equal in the world.
For best results, apply every 60-90 days. Just wipe on and let dry. No buffing is necessary. Do not use an excessive amount. Allow your leather to dry thoroughly before using
