This isn't really dealer related, more a transport issue (I think) but I didn't know where else to post it. As soon as I picked up my new car (2012 4.6) I started making small changes to it as I as I always do, decent horns, radar, WeatherTech wind deflectors etc., etc.. One of the first things I always do is bounce the paper filter and use a K&N unit. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the original filter was clogged with paper shreds (from another filter) wood splinters and dried grass. In the filter housing were 4 to 5 cups of the same material, so much that the cold air flap (bottom of housing and activated by intake pressure) could not open more than an inch or two.
I informed the dealer and they said they would add filter inspection to their new car prep as well as inform corporate of the issue. The rat/mouse nest could have been added anywhere along it's journey to the states. Obviously this would affect performance and mileage. You just might want to look into yours and see if there are any surprises.
