  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The Dealer Network

When Genesis started six years ago, the brand said it would use Hyundai's existing dealer network to sell Genesis cars, but after getting sued and forced to stop selling cars in some states, those plans were quickly abandoned. Now, Genesis is starting its own dealer network, and while that will take some time to get established, Márquez said that's not keeping them from getting their numbers up. In fact, the chip shortage has caused them to sell less than what they could have.

Lafayette, Louisiana will be the first official Genesis dealer to open its doors in early 2022, and will be followed by Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Between now and June 30, more Genesis dealers will start to be built in important markets, Márquez said.

Despite the gloom and doom predictions on Sedan sales, they still make up more than 40% of the market. However, with the SUVs now on offer, more people are going to be looking at Genesis.

That 40% for sedans seems like it could be an accurate number. For the Genesis brand, in November 64% of sales were the two SUV's and YTD thru November 61% of sales were the 2 SUV's.

My local Genesis/Hyundai dealership will drop Genesis as of the first of January. The Service Manager told me the reason is that Genesis told them they must physically separate the Genesis facility from their Hyundai one and that was going to cost them $8 million, and that because they couldn't get very many cars to sell, it wasn't worth it.

They told me they could still do routine stuff like oil changes, wiper changes and so on, they will not be able to do any repairs or service recalls. This puts me in a bind: after 1/1/2022, my nearst Genesis dealer will be 170 mountainous miles away, in Vancouver, Washington.

When I sent a message to Genesis/Corporate, here's how they replied: "Thank you for contacting Genesis Customer Care. We received your email in regards to your nearest retailer closing. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause however we cannot guarantee reimbursement. If you have service done at an independent repair facility you can submit your receipts for possible reimbursements. Only authorized genesis retailers can complete recalls and warranty work so if the time comes and you need warranty work done we are unable to send out a valet due to distance. The retailer may be able to meet halfway and drop off a loaner however you would have to arrange that with the retailer directly since all Genesis retailers are privately owned. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact us."

So what should I do? Sell the car or keep it for a few years with my fingers crossed that it will not require service?

Lots of "small" car marques go through this. Alfa had the same issues a few years ago.... Many owners were left with no dealers in their state.

Most people have very few issues with their cars so I say roll the dice.

I'm curious about that. We have a new stand-alone dealer in Richmond, Virginia.

Simply stated, Genesis management is out of their minds. They have been fumbling this football since well before 2017. More high level changes are needed, starting in Korea.
