  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey Everybody-

I just registered in hopes of doing more research on my upcoming new car purchase (could very likely be my last as I just turned 60). I looked, but did not find a dedicated "New Member Introduction" sub-forum or thread.

My last car was a Subaru Legacy GT which I sold a little over a year ago because we found ourselves with an extra vehicle as we sort of "inherited" my mother-in-law's '10 Ford Escape when she went into assisted living and my wife took over driving that car. Since I sold the Subaru I've been driving my wife's '13 Ford Escape Titanium. Mother-in-law passed away recently and I am wanting to get my wife back into her '13 as it is so much nicer than the '10, and I am looking to get back into a sedan.

Which brings me here. My short list has evolved into: Acura TLX A-Spec, Ford Fusion Sport, Infiniti Q50 3.0t Sport, Kia Stinger GT, Lexus IS350 F-Sport, and lastly the upcoming Genesis G70 3.3 Sport. The Germans are absent for a few obvious reasons.

My basic criteria is 4-door sedan, AWD, some engine other than a 2.0 i4 turbo, under $50K MSRP, and devoid of a few features I don't care for (I'm looking at you automatic engine stop-start). The Ford is here mostly as a value-priced comparator, and the Lexus is probably a little too pretentious for me (along with a face only a mother could love).

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing what other forum members are experiencing with their Genesis ownership, and news on the G70. Thanks for reading.

Do you plan to keep the car 20 years? I was a month past my 72nd birthday when I bought my present G80 and hope to buy maybe one more in the future.

Looking at your list, the G70 looks like it will be a good choice. I agree on the looks of the Lexus too. It was not on my list but my wife would never let me buy something that looks like that front end. The G70 maintains the elegance of the Genesis line in a nice priced performance package. I like the Stinger, but I think the G70 has a classier style, but that may also be my age showing a bit. God luck, hope to see you announce you got a new G70 in a few months. There are a few threads here about it.

Welcome aboard, Mark! Thank you for signing up. Are you doing your Stinger research at KiaStinger.com? As for your list "Acura TLX A-Spec, Ford Fusion Sport, Infiniti Q50 3.0t Sport, Kia Stinger GT, Lexus IS350 F-Sport, and lastly the upcoming Genesis G70 3.3 Sport." Let me see...

Acura TLX. Don't do that to yourself. :p I have a 2016 V6 Accord Touring fully loaded. It's so, so similar. It's just not in the same league as either the Kia Stinger or the Genesis G70. The Infiniti is a good car and, of course, so is the Lexus. The IS350 F-Sport is going to be a fun, reliable car to drive. The Infiniti Q50 - pretty much the same. The Ford Fusion Sport is actually pretty darn nice for the price. Maybe your best bang for the buck. However, it's also an inferior car to all the Asian vehicles listed other than maybe the TLX. I'm really just not a fan of the TLX. It doesn't "feel" like a luxury car to me. It's not solid.

The G70 and Stinger will give you the best performance results while still having luxury features and reliability included... AND for a reasonable price... AND with a great warranty! It's beginning to look like a no brainer. :p

Welcome! I just joined not long ago as well. Originally I was also going for the G70 but a couple of factors came into play for me. First is the unknown when you can actually get one in the US. The second is after looking at the G80 Sport I like the interior much better or I should say dash over the G70. I'm not into the iPad add on for Nav, etc. Also I like the smaller size of the G70 but in the end I bought a G80 AWD Sport and love it. Also you can deal on them right now I got mine close to your $50K price. So far the G80 blows me a way as I'm sure the G70 will as well. I also looked at the Lexus IS350 F-Sport but the G80 blows it away except in size.

Thanks for the replies.

This might be my last NEW car PURCHASE...I don't put on a ton of miles because I am so close to work, so cars tend to last me a long time...the Legacy was 11 years old with 71,000 miles on it. I can also see the possibility of leasing in the future as I care less and less about the owning experience as I get older or maybe buying an off-lease vehicle...or having Google or Apple autonomous cars cart me around to where I need to go as I age.

The last two new vehicles we bought, the '05 Legacy and the '13 Escape were first-year editions of a new generation and both had enough issues that I am a little gun shy of doing that again with a G70. Does anyone know how long it has been on sale in its domestic market?

I have yet to drive any of these cars on my list as I am at the very beginning of my research. I've never had a Honda product and the Acura dealer is paired with the Subaru dealer I used for years, so I have a good feel for that store. I've been sexually violated by Ford a couple times now and am not looking to repeat that experience yet again. I need to get something before everyone goes to CVTs and all touch screen controls (I like to be able to maneuver around my dash by feel).

Thanks again.

"""TLX. It doesn't "feel" like a luxury car to me. It's not solid. """

Agreed, I had a 2015 TLX SH-AWD, the ride and noise levels are superior on my G80. The TLX was lighter, quicker and got much better gas mileage, if those qualities are important to you. Comfort was a big issue to us. My wife is disabled and had a hard time getting in and out of the TLX. Also, the seats caused her a lot of pain and problems. Seats in the G80 have been great so far. Over all I like the G80 better.

From that list - would cut it down to the G70, Stinger and Q50.

Alex did a comparison of the Stinger and Q50.

And his full review on the Stinger.

This pretty much says it all...

The Stinger is officially the best car I drove in 2017. Not because it's the best handling, or fastest car, or most luxurious car I drove last year but because the Stinger raises the bar for affordable performance vehicles. It's both practical and fun to drive, it's comfortable yet affordable and most importantly, it's attainable with the base model starting at $32,000 (right around the average new car in America) while the fire-breathing twin-turbo V6 model can be had for a reasonable $38,350.

The IS is stricken b/c it's so darn fugly.

But a mod on a Lexus forum did sell his '17MY IS F Sport and traded in his RC-F for the Stinger and seems quite pleased w/ his decision.
