  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So new to the site. Did a search here but never did see a full or correct answer to my question.

I just bought a 2020 G70, it only came with one fob. Looking to get another. I know the dealership need to program, is it ok to purchase my own fob? Or just suck it up and spend the 400+ dollars through the dealership?

If you have more than one dealership nearby, I would check each one. If you buy and have Service Department from same dealership program, if there are any problems, they will take care of it. If you buy online and dealer has problem programming , they will blame the fob that you did not buy from them.

Question. Why did you accept car without second fob? You knew it only had one fob before you signed papers.

Ten years ago, I purchased a used MXZ from a dealer. Before I took delivery and signed paperwork, I saw that it only had one key. This was the key that had the chip and lock/unlock buttons on end of key. Popular ten years ago.

I refused to sign.
Talked LOUD making it known that they’ve wasted my time as I was not signing without second key.
They rushed out to nearby Ford dealer and got a Correct blank key and programmed it while I waited.

Dealers have no problem selling you a car with only one key.

No I knew it had one key, it was an online deal, and the fob was not a deal breaker on the price I got for the vehicle. It's not something that I am rushing to do but always nice to have 2 keys. I mean honestly car has 2k of milage on it, how TF did a key get lost. But it's a 2020 so who knows.
