  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I figure I've been lurking enough, I could do an introduction thread.

Me: Mechanic by trade and hobby my entire adult life(and a bit before lol). Car enthusiast through and through, across multiple brands and platforms. No real bias here. And avid forum goer.

The car: 2009 Genesis 4.6 with all the bells and whistles available(I believe the tech package encompasses every option, correct?).
Bought with 78k miles on it just about 1 week ago and have enjoyed it from the day I bought it, to the day it went back into the shop lol.

It's in right now for sunroof repairs(sounds like the motor is toast), a brake flush, and the dealership(not a Hyundai dealer) said the CD changer issue cannot be justifiably addressed as the Hyundai dealer quoted them around $2000 for the CD changer unit itself.... I can completely understand that. But when salvage yards have it for $300, I MIGHT get around to it myself some day.

And for the record, a 2015 Ford Explorer is NOT "comparable, but better, so the loaner doesn't feel like a downgrade".

ANYWAY, onto the pics:

Thanks for the info. I'd fear that after shipping and the repair cost, it might end up being a wash from replacing. I figure it's a 10 minute replacement, and IF I ever feel like doing it, a $300 part or so. I'll still look into repair to price it out. My issue is, the CD changer is registering a disc being in it, yet it will not play the disc, the eject button does not work, and the load button does not work. Volume control on the CD changer works fine.

Did you try inserting a paperclip in the hole next to the CD trick? That may eject the CD if there is one in there

These days a CD is just not worth repairing. Abandon it and use a thumbdrive.

Before I saw the photos I thought you might have been the 4.6 that pulled up alongside me yesterday eastbound on the 60 from Phoenix. Guy was obviously scanning my Genny for information. He then honked his horn and indicated he wanted to go but there was just too much traffic for that so I just waved. Seconds later he shot around me at what I suspect was full accelleration into the off ramp then had to cramp onto his brakes before ramming the tailpipe of the car in front of him. I have a feeling we will see each other again. :) I've never raced a 4.6 but assume it would have the same outcome as racing a Bimmer.

Same thing went wrong with my friend's cd player. He lives in Atlanta and had it repaired to like new for 300.00. Or use the usb port, that is all we have ever used.

And that's exactly why it's not at all a priority. With Aux and USB right in the consol, I'll never have a real reason to use it. It's just an annoyance to know something doesn't function. Aside from that(and the sunroof of course), I've loved every feature of the car so far! ETA on getting her back in my hands from repair should be Saturday. Here's to hoping.

SO, Service guy told me last week that they're replacing the entire assembly because of how FUBAR'd it was. So that's good peace of mind, new everything should mean trouble free operation and sealing of the sunroof. The downside.... he also told me the part wouldn't be in from Hyundai until Tuesday(today). So fingers crossed that I get the car back this evening. They did a brake flush/fill because they said the pedal didn't feel quite right and there was air in the line anyway. I definitely appreciate that, means longer time before I do a flush on them :D
