  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I guess this is the first place I need to post as a new member. The Genesis has been of interest to me for a few months now since I first saw info and pictures of the concept. I have not joined any other Hyundai forums because, quite honestly, none of the other Hyundai models hold any interest for me.

I have owned a number of high performance cars over the years (a lot of years) and my interest is primarily in straight line performance. I currently own a 05 Pontiac GTO and still take it to the drag strip from time to time.

The Genesis sedan has peaked my interest; because it appears that it has the potential to provide a little more luxury than the GTO without sacrificing performance.

Obviously, like all of us, I need to know more about the final production car; and this forum seems like an ideal place to learn.

Welcome aboard! Thank you for signing up. The GTO is a very comfortable car! I love the interior. I think the Genesis is going to come up a Little short in the performance category compared to the GTO. The Pontiac G8 and 300C, G37, 350Z - I think they're all going to be a touch faster than the Genesis.. We'll have to see, though.. I'll be Very impressed otherwise...

Welcome. I am a Pontiac guy myself, though I am not much into the recent GTO, since it was really nothing more than a re-badged Holden import, that lacked the original's personality.

As for the Genesis sedan, it's not really a performance car, they label it as Sports sedan, but it's geared more towards luxury, Genesis Coupe was the one that they made, that they designed for performace, so, if you want performance, you may want to wait another year until the coupe comes out.

I don't want to use a Hyundai forum to argue the merits of other cars; but having owned Silver Streaks, Chieftans, Star Chiefs, Bonnevilles, Trans Ams, and Grand Prixs, I consider new era GTO to be the best of the lot. Yes, it is a re-badged Holden Monaro; just as the G8 is a re-badged Holden Commodore VE; but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Much of the original GTOs personality has resulted from the retelling and embellishment of stories over the years. Technically, it was nothing more than a re-badged Tempest which employed the old hot rodder's trick of swapping a larger engine into a smaller car.

I recognize that Hyundai is not pushing the Genesis sedan as their performance leader; but I do believe that it has the potential to be competitive. The coupe is not an option for me. If I wanted to live with two doors and a small trunk, I would just keep the GTO. Actually, I think Hyundai may fall a little short with the coupe in terms of performance, since they have decided not to offer a V8 Tau option. IMO, the coupe is going to be pretty heavy for a six cylinder. I'm guessing that the straight line performance of the coupe will probably be on par with the V8 Mustang GT. That falls into the peppy category; but it certainly isn't a barn burner performance wise.

Hi John,

I think Hyundai would like to compete with the Mustang GT - but I think they're going to come up a little short. They're going to be closer to the Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Chrysler 300C - but even STILL fall a little short.

I was surprised when I heard the v8 wouldn't be making it into the Coupe.. I predict a real-world 0-60 in the Coupe to be around 5.9 seconds at best. The v8 would have probably seen a 5.3...

Well, there was a rumor at first, that Genesis coupe could have the V8 option, but later Hyundai confirmed that it was a no no, saying that, there simply isn't much room in the coupe to take in the V8. Shame I know, it could have been the only Asian coupe with the V8 power that could have been a threat to the Mustang with V8 power. As it turns out now, the coupe WILL fall a bit short performance wise to most of its competitors, at least, it will be less expensive than the rest.
