In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hello as well to all members,
Just purchased a Genesis 4.6 Platimun w/ Tech
Black Interior and Wing badge on tail
Have had it for a couple days. Ride real nice and confortable. For the money you cannot go wrong.
I do have a couple questions for the membership, since I am new to the Genesis.

Is the blue tint in the instrument panel muted.?..does not appear as "bright" on the literature brochure and the Hyundai website...mine has just a tinge of blue...mostly white on black

Also, when coming to a stop, taking my foot of the gas......it coasts and then i feel a little pull back.....

Lastly, my wife and I were driving, and put her seat warmer on...the 3 small lights lit.....but then started to flash off and on....and sea:welcome:t did not get warm.

Any comments would be appreciated....

all new issues your talking about, i see what i can find out for you and hopefully have an answer for you albeit that i work at the dealership.

Thanks for the reply.

I test drove both the 6 and the 8 during cloudy days and remeber the instrument panel being this vivid blue and white.
Then driving my newly purchased v8 home.....i heard a click 9like the headlights were coming on or going off automatically, and noticed a very noticeable difference in the lighting on the instrument panel.

The dealer checked it out against other units there BUT it was during the daytime, my dash was lit up just like the others.

At night, of course being dark I notice the blue abit more, but it just does not seem any different then during the day.....

I do not know if within the Instrument panel there is a night and day mode for the lighting...

Also, does the V8 come with RDL running day lights....??
I have seen some specs that say NA and others that say Yes

Thanks for the assist.

You can set this to be on or off on the "stalk" on the left side of the steering wheel where the light switches are. If the running lights are on, the green-ish light icon on the dash stays illuminated while the car is running.

Cheers.

Hi RJH,

I'm in the same boat you are, sort of. I picked up my new platinum/black 4.6 with Tech yesterday, but the wing badge for the trunk I ordered last week hasn't yet arrived. I'm also a newbie to this website.

When I drove the car home from the dealer I was a little surprised that the instrument panel appeared white on black. Didn't have the opportunity to drive it after the sun went down, but plan to do so tonight to see if the panel looks more like the photo in the brochure.

With only 35 miles on the odometer at this moment in time, I haven't noticed the "pull back" when taking my foot off the gas. Will look for that as well. And with the daytime temperature in the 60s and 70s out here in Northern California, I've not used the seat heater.

Spent most of this morning detailing what the dealer's detailer missed and becoming familiar with the features. Managed to hook up the iPod using Hyundai's $30 cable and pairing my garage door opener to the button on the rear view mirror.

My goal at the moment is to explore this forum to see if anyone has found a website that sells chrome "Genesis" license plate frames so I can dispose of the black plastic frames with yellow letters advertising the Hyundai/VW dealer that sold me the car.

So far I couldn't be more impressed by this car. If it proves to have the reliability of the Toyotas and Acuras I have had in the past, it may be the most perfect ride I have ever owned. And I have gone through a lot of vehicles over the past several decades.

RE: Light issues

All interior lighting is dimmable via a switch just to the left of the steering wheel. This is the switch where you would turn on the interior lights while sitting in the garage with the lights off. If you are operating your headlights in "Auto", and the sensor turns on the lights in daytime, due to clouds, tunnel, etc. the interior lights will dim to their preset night position. When the headlights switch off the lights will go bright again. The easiest way to solve this, IMHO, is to not run the lights in Auto. If you must, there is also a setting on the interior light dimmer which allows the interior lights to maintian full brightness even when the headlights are on. You would most use this feature in states where you are required to turn on your lights in daytime when the wipers are operating.

Regarding your issue re: pull back.
I have experienced the same, however, I thought that it was due to the way the Engine Management Software works to ensure your car is 1) in the right gear for quick acceleration, and 2) the rev-level is appropriate for the declining speed.

The car I replaced (C320 sport 2001) just coasted when I lifted my right foot off the accelerator and, as a result, there was a lag when I pressed the gas-pedal. My Genesis 4.6, in contrast, does have the pull-back, however, it immediately accelerates as soon as I touch the gas pedal.

In summary, I am not concerned about the pull-back.

Nor am I concerned. During my first relatively long drive in my new 4.6 yesterday I noticed what one could refer to as "pull back" on occasion after I lifted my foot from the accelerator. I got the impression that the transmission was simply downshifting to a gear appropriate for reduced speed. Such a design would make sense with a six-speed transmission.

Are we talking about day-time running lights or fog lights here? I wasn't aware the US versions had DRL.

My 4.6 Genesis has the very nice blue rings around the gauges. It certainly isn't as noticable through the day but I can certainly tell it none the less.

At night it is very noticable and all switch lighting is blue as well. I think it is a very nice combination. It's all adjustable using the brightness/dimmer switch on the lower left side of the dash.

Thanks for the comments on the "pull back" the explanations make sense.....I am still abit confused about the illumination of the instrument panel....

during the day, it appears mostly white light on the dash (speedometer and tach and fuel and temp gauge...I can see the blue line under the numbers....

At Night....of course the guages all appear brighter, but again looking at them I notice the white brightness versus the blue only in the instrument panel....certainly not the blue I have seen in photos and in the brochures....I understand from a previous post that photos and brochures can play tricks on the eyes, with regards to the blue color (being brighter in photos)

All of the other knobs, buttons throughout the cabin are blue, that I am not concerned about...

I am just wondering if I have blue lights in the panel blown >? Or its simply my imagination, and the dash is suppose to be mostly white at night with the blue underscore lines being more dark then bright...

I'm rambling...sorry

On my Genesis, and the two that I test drove, the actual gauges are white, except that there is a faint blue ring around the gauges. In looking at the eBrochere on the Hyundai website, the gauges are also white, but the blue ring appears a little brighter than on my car and the other cars I have driven, but that may be because they turned down the brightness of the dash to take the photograph and the blue light is therefore more prominent. If they hadn't turned down the brightness of the dash, the dimly lit photo of the interior would have not looked right.

In between the tach and speedo, the odometer and other information is in white on a dark blue background.

I don't think there is a problem with your car. But you can check some other vehicles out at your dealer.

Are you trying to drive rjhgenesis into a state of paranoia? If so, I think you are succeeding.

Just had to say your last post "Are you trying to drive rjhgenesis into a state of paranoia?", made me laugh after reading all the other posts relating to the new owner quiestions. To rjhgenesis: my light panels appear just as yours, at times though while out after dark, people have commented on my "blue interior lights, and the light when opening my door did appear blue. I was thinking-not sure, if the store parking lot lights shinning over my car made my car light appear blue, cause when parked in my garage light is white. Overall I would say don't think there is a problem w/your light panel. I often use my heat warmer (every day) since Nov and have not experience any flashing..IMO I would have the dealer ck it out if continues to flash.

Congrats on your new Genesis---Enjoy!!

An Ebay seller lists a chrome plate, BUT you'll need to check with the seller to see how he differentiates between the "ELANTRA GENESIS TIBURON" that he lists for the item, about $12. I believe this is the same seller I bought my AZERA plate from for my 2006 Limited. It then clearly stated in the ad that AZERA would be imprinted, and it was, but this ad is open to question...

Daytime running lights cannot be turned off and do not trigger any lights on the instrument panel.

If you see the green "lights-on" light on the instrument panel it's your regular driving lights that are on (as well as parking lights), not daytime running lights (which do not include parking lights).

Daytime running lights are mandatory in Canada (don't know if the American model also has them or not) and, on the Genesis, they use the halogen high-beam lamp for it, at a reduced wattage.

No daytime running lamps/lights on US model.

I think it is a big mistake to have the green "lights-on" light illuminated for the parking lights. I just discovered that yesterday, and it seems like a safety issue for people driving in the city at night where there are lots of street lights and one would not always notice that the headlights are not on. Hyundai could have made it white or some other color instead of green for the parking lights.

In regards to the pullback question...

I don't own a Genesis yet, but I recently drove a Honda in Japan, and noticed a weird (to me) feature. When driving, say 60km/h, I when I removed my foot from the accelerator, the RPMs would drop as I expected. Then, if the car did not begin to slow (say if I were going down a hill), the RPMs would begin to climb, and the car would slow down. I was able to repeat this several times, and deduced that it is some sort of anti-coasting feature coupled with the transmission designed to keep the car from speeding up when the gas pedal is not depressed.

Interestingly enough, once when the RPMs had climbed about 2,000 and the car was beginning to slow down, I BARELY touched the pedal, just giving it a tad more gas, and the RPMs immediately dropped. Took foot off the pedal, and they slowly climbed.

Not sure if this is a feature on the Genesis, or even what you are feeling, but thought I'd share my experience in the hope it clarifies yours.

Cheers!
