I purchased a new 2011 Genesis 4.6 on Friday, March 25th and put about 300 miles on it over the weekend, so far I am extremely happy with the car. I’ll start out by giving credit to my Dealer, Lake Norman Hyundai, they made the buying experience truly enjoyable. I have purchased many new vehicles in the past and I would rate this one of the best and easiest transactions I’ve had. My only complaint is that I should have offered less for the car as they were very quick to take my offer without much of any haggling. Still very happy with the price I paid though…. $37,433 + T&L. I really think if I would have pushed I could have gotten down to the high 36’s.
Over the last 3+ months I have been researching cars in this segment and test drove several in that time, had our choice down to the Benz E350, Infinity M37 and BMW 535i before we even knew the Genesis really even existed and could compete with these other brands. One of my wife’s co-workers suggested to her that we should go take a look at it, at first I was very apprehensive as I was looking at relatively high end cars and this was a Hyundai after all.
I’ll start with my impressions of my original front runners.
BMW 535i – Looks nice, ride is pretty stiff and I was really not a fan of the power delivery, reminded me of a v6 Honda accord, pretty quick but sounded like the engine had to be rapped out all the time to get the power, just not smooth delivery. Nice car, just not what we were looking for and after going to 2 different dealerships, BMW was off the table, treated like it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to even walk into the places, rude and not helpful at all, that sealed their fate, no to the BMW.
E350 – Beautiful car, very smooth, every option we wanted in a car only problem was it was a little sluggish and was at the high end of our price point. Dealership was fantastic though, if I am ever in the market for a Benz I would go there.
M37 – Also a Beautiful car, apples and oranges from the E350, much more sport oriented, the v6 did not have to work real hard to get good smooth power delivery, only problem was it seem to be always fishing for the right gear around town, didn’t really love that. Drove the M56 as well and it was great but at a price of over 65k the M37 won. Interior was fantastic as well but not as comfy as the E350 but it’s not intended to be, layout, look and feel was great and the dealership was right on top of things. While on a test drive in the M37 we mentioned the Genesis to the sales guy and he said we should go take a look at it, we would be suppressed, so we did….
Genesis – I think somebody took my list of requirements and built this car around them. Plenty of power, very smooth, very quiet, the interior is not quite as “pretty” as some of the others but just as comfortable as the E350. Had all the features I was looking for and none of the “nice to haves” but can’t get feature A unless you get feature B issues all the others had. I kind of like the get what you get stance on the 4.6 and all for 10-15k+ less than any of the other cars I was looking at!
So in the end I am a very happy owner of a new Genesis and thank everyone on this site for lots of valuable information that helped me make my decision.
Sorry for the long winded first post….
