New pads and rotors for 2013 5.0 sedan

My experience is that you maybe can't do better than the OEM pads and rotors for the Genesis. Otherwise I prefer Brembo rotors and Porterfield Brake pads.

I have powerstop Z26 pads on my Camaro ZL1, a show/weekend car with nearly the same weight as my Genny 4.6 but roughly twice the torque and HP. I put its OEM Brembo racing pads on the shelf at 1k miles and haven't looked back since. Now have 7700mi on the Camaro.

The Powerstops make zero brake dust and perform well for ceramic pads (I do not track my Z). If I were to need OEM pad replacements and couldn't get them for a reasonable price, I'd have no qualms about using Powerstop Z26 on my Genny... they'd likely perform nearly identical to the OEM Genesis pads.

Curious about these rotors now.

They seem to meet similar specs of the stock rotors but the last thing I want to do is down-grade my rotors when I could easily have these turned, but all the reviews on these PowerStop rotors are solid so I have been considering making the swap.
 
I replaced mine with a similar set K5845 from ebay for $320 in June 2018 and installed them in August:

My reaction after over 1.5 years almost:
1) I purchased them hoping for greater braking distance/power but seem to think so far that its good but not great.
2) They have surface rust in 2 or more days of sitting around.
3) The squeal quite a bit after sitting for a day or so or the next day after rain/snow.
4) Concerned if they will last as long as I am visibly see surface degredation on the rotors at least.

Overall I am ok with them but cant say 100% great or really happy and have put about 15K miles since putting them on myself. The OEM set was there for almost 45,000 miles as the car did not get driven as much as it has in the last 1.5 year. At this rate I might see myself replacing them in another 15,000 miles so getting 30,000 miles off the set. A lot depends on the driver habits, road conditions etc but just stating my initial experience.

If I do this again, I might do OEM not sure what the cost is for the full set by then.

Hey Shah, thanks for that information!

I ended up going with a set of OEM pads for the front and back and will be replacing them on the stock rotors alongside a brake bleed, will be painting the rotors and calipers black after a good sand and brake cleaner soaking and will see the results of these efforts this weekend.

I mainly chose this route because I plan on having this car another 30k miles max, since I'm at 70k now, and everyone seems to like the stock rotors.

I would like to have had them turned but I don't have any brake pulsing now, and other than my pads being at about 20%, this route had a cost of under $100 and at the holiday time it made more sense than the $300+ route.

Will post results after the job is completed!

I wouldnt replace with anything BUT the stock stuff as boring as that sounds.

Hey OU.

Including some pictures here with the wheels back on. Quality and angle are not the best but it gives you an idea.

Overall, the job took my 3 hours with the help of my dad and wasn't bad at all.

We used a floor jack on the standard side jack-points and a jack stand for additional protection.

On the front, we started by compressing the four pistons and putting the new brakes back in. I cleaned the area heavily with brake cleaner and a solid wipe but made no effort to sand or anything like that.

I used plastic bags to mask off the surrounding area and taped the actual brake pad area behind the caliper.

I cut out a semi-circle in a piece of cardboard and it lined up perfectly with the hub of the rotor. This protected about 95% of the rotor, although there was definitely some overspray by the hub which ripped off when I bed the brakes in. I made one light pass and one medium pass with some high-temp caliper paint and let it dry for maybe a maximum of 5 minutes and then removed the masking and put everything back together and wheels back on.

Same story for the back except I did have to remove the caliper to compress the piston since it is a floating caliper. Did the same paint scheme on both the rotor and caliper, same dry time, and moved on.

Total shop time was 3 hours with about an hour of that being paint.

Overall, very happy with the results, I like the all black calipers and rotors and even though the front were black they now have a renewed look to them.

Quoting myself from the forum as I am at a point that about 1 month back the brakes started to make grinding sounds and 3 weeks later they sound really really bad and are worn and cutting into the rotors on both sides so will need to be replaced along with the rotors (I do rotors almost always instead of turning or cutting them as I dont find the work/value worth it).

So this mean I got about 4ish years out of the set and about 30,000 miles from the PowerStop with very little driving last year due to Covid (just about 5000). To me that's not that great as you can see others getting a lot more out of the OEM Sets.

Anyone know if this set will work with the 2012 3.8: 58101-3NA02 - Brake Pads - 2011-2014 Hyundai | hyundaiparts

THere is a shortage of parts locally in PA so I cannot even get a set in time or at least not for the next 3+ weeks...
