  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all.

I have been reading these forums for a while now. A problem I have with the stock wheels on my 2010 Genesis Coup (2785 miles) gave me reason to join.

I am 55 years old and live in the San Francisco Bay area in a city called South San Francisco (yep it's just south of San Francisco, LOL).

My wife and I have been married for 31 years. My daughter is pregnant with her first child. She has a daughter from her husbands previous relationship. And we love her as our first grand kid.

I am a car guy, always have been. It's all I ever did for fun and as my profession. I was never a "tech" I was a mechanic. I always did hate the way they changed the name for what we did like being a car mechanic was a bad thing.

I was a ASE certified car mechanic, I only ever owned 67 and 68 Firebirds. I also drag raced for a few years. I help build and crewed on the Champion Speed Shop twin engine dragster. The Genesis doesn't have the low end grunt of a V8, and can't bang the gears and use the clutch. But the Firebirds handled like crap and didn't stop worth a darn either.

I am retired now at too young of an age due to the 14 surgeries I have had. Three on my left knee and they want to replace it. No freeking way that will ever happen. My herniated disc and screwed up shoulder add to the problems. Being a mechanic is rough work. My doctor once told me mechanics exert themselves as much as athletes do. But we don't get paid like it.

When I bought my Genesis Coup I looked and Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers. But for what I wanted they were 42gs and I think they are just OK looking. I did my home work and went to see this Genesis I was heraing good things about.

We paid cash and got out the door for 33gs with the 10 year warranty. So in 10 years when it runs out I should have 10,000 miles on it.

The car is awesome. I got the little kid with a hot rod out of me the first month. 120mph is all I had the guts for. And I realized that was gonna get me in trouble anyway. Funny how you think like that only when you get older.

Any way I don't claim to be an expert but I do my own oil changes. I will do my own brakes (If I ever have to replace them) and I know I can pull the coils to replace the spark plugs. I will never pay anyone 225 dollars an hour to work on my cars.

Cya on the boards. My first question will be in the tire and wheel sections

Joe

Hey Joe, welcome to the form and Genesis club.:welcome:

I’m a lot like you I’m retired and love to work on my cars. I take pride in the fact that I can make most repairs myself. I have found this web site to be a tremendous resource to guys who like to work on their car and get’er done right the first time.:)

Having spent almost thirty years working in the Nuclear power industry sort of ingrains the attitude that if is not perfect then it is not acceptable.

Of course I realize that there will be times when I need to go to the dealer to solve a problem I don’t have the equipment or knowledge to solve myself, using the resources and knowledge of the people who frequent this site, but I haven’t had any problems with my Genny that required dealer intervention so far.

Enjoy your retirement and your new ride.:D

PS: I spent months looking for wheels for my baby and settled on TSW Sentterton Chrome 18X8 40mm offset which I purchased from www.discounttiredirect.com.

Greetings Joe and welcome to the forum. I won't say I was a mechanic but more of a grease monkey. I worked in a gas station back in the days of full service. We did oil changes, tune-ups etc. I always serviced my own vehicles until recently. I find it easier to let someone else do it. I quess I'm getting lazy in my "old age" LOL.
