  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I have been without my car for about a month now because the transmission is getting replaced. About a month ago I was driving on a highway and it felt like the car went into neutral and it wouldn’t go. I tried to get it into gear but it wouldn’t. I had to be towed to the dealership. Apparently the coolant line to the transmission came off and dumped quite a bit of transmission fluid. Obviously that did damage to the transmission and now the dealership is going to replace the transmission.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I want to know how common this issue is. They say that they have never seen it before.

Holy crap !! You are the first person on this board to mention this. Obviously this board community is just a sliver of the G70 population.

Why is it taking a month ?!?!?! Geez.

Good luck man...keep us updated.

They originally just put transmission fluid back in the transmission and said it was good. When I drove it after getting it back, didn’t feel right. I took it back and it took them that long time to work with Genesis to get a new transmission approved. It also took a week for them to get the transmission and now I am waiting for the tech to be available to install the new transmission. I did reach out to Genesis and they are going to reimburse me for the time they have had the car. It only has 1,200 miles on it.

Where are you located? And...how has it been dealing with the dealer? Can I assume you had to deal with the Service Manager?

I am in Omaha Nebraska. The service manager has been great, but the service advisor, general sales manager, and my salesman hasn’t been great. The service manager has made sure to store my car inside when they aren’t working on it, which I have appreciated. I really wish here in Omaha they had a dealership that was just Genesis and not mixed with Hyundai. I think the customer service would be better.

Yup. Definitely not the first time this has happened. I recall another thread stating almost the exact same thing - they said the transmission fluid cooler was not connected properly from the factory, and either replaced the cooler and/or replaced the entire transmission.

On top of this, motor trend had their transmission replaced because it kept kicking into neutral. Unsure if it had anything to do with the cooler, though.

The fact that it seems to be an assembly issue hopefully means they've gotten the kinks out by now... Curious what the build date on OP's car is.

Has anyone been able to check which connection is the culprit? Is this something I could check under the hood or from under the engine?

There was a brand new 2.0 that someone in Dallas bought (from an OKC dealer) that had an engine issue -- they wound up replacing the car (I believe); he had smelled something that seemed like it was burning from the beginning & salesperson said it was normal; think it wound up not being normal. (That was February or March last year--not positive).

That’s outrageous, for something so serious they should act much more quickly, I’m fed up with the customer service of genesis, completely unrelated but I waited 6 HOURS just for a new pair of rear tires on my g70! I must say if they don’t step up I won’t continue with genesis, been eye balling the Audi RS5 Sportback...
