i now have 1300miles on the Genesis. it performed flawlessly on the trip (1100miles). speed set by cruise between 74-78 the whole way and she got 26.1mpg (hand calculated, DIC showed 26.9 averaged for the most part a in between the fill ups). i think that's very good for A/C and an occasional kick up to and over 100 now and then. i also idled for 40 minutes while i took a nap, tried with the car off but i immediately realized that no A/C wouldn't cut it.
i also left it idling at least 3 more times while i fueled up and cleaned the windows, either my wife or I using the restroom (of course we couldn't sync up lol). My first tank got us about 100 miles into NC so the tank was at 445 miles (only using 17.5 gallons. impressive). then i filled up twice more (once from a half tank because we stopped to eat anyway) and both times the mpg factored out a little higher and the other slightly lower and it all averaged out to 26.1mpg.
not using cruise probably would've saved another mpg as you naturally lose a couple mph on inclines that cruise doesn't, using more gas. as well as getting almost 29mpg (dic showed 29.9 so i'm going with the .8 mpg optimism it showed me)doing just 68mph (for about 10 miles in Virginia) and lowering to 25.3 (26.1 on the dic) at 84mph for at least 10 mile stretch in northern florida.
first tank was 93 octane the last two fills were regular 87, no noticable difference in mpg from what i could tell, then again the engine is still spanking new who knows?
as for alignment/crowning of hwys? car would drift left in the left lane and right in the right the center lane depended on the crown but on ALL concrete flat bridges steering wheel is straight and car runs true so again, tires? inherent nature of these cars? whatever, didn't bother my wife nor myself. steering feel did not make me tired (which i thought for sure reading all of the reviews on here it was going to). Adaptive cruise was awesome in heavily congested areas with the exception of the car stabbing the brakes a couple times here or there (obviously using cruise in heavy traffic wouldn't work with a conventional system, so that's not the fault of the adaptive cruise/car, i'm just amazed how it slows on bends, etc you can use it in traffic, one step closer to self driving cars lol).
I also found my "xm" light to not be working on the DIS pod?? wth? all the others light up blue but that one is dead. Also cooled seat is NOTHING compared to the ones in the GMC trucks, this one on it's highest setting is pretty weak. but i love the rest of the car, nothing is perfect no matter the price, this one gave me more than i expected, especially dispatching the occaional Audi and maxima on the hwy (like a jet from 70-130, effortless and quiet, you can carry a conversation at 130 like you were going 55mph in my Denali). Anyway just some thoughts after the first long haul in the Genesis.
Seats were very comfortable, could use more adjustment form the passenger seat, cooled, and lumbar. but i guess that's why it only costs $44k right?
PS. stopped in a restaurant in Orlando and tow guys riding in a black/tinted BMW 5 series walked around the car and had the wtf look on!! i told my wife see that Hyundai what? i hate black but it is sinister looking with the tint and wings on the back and wheels.
