  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I wanted to keep this in the Rspec family. My 2011 4.6 also just showed caller phone numbers and not names. Was hoping my Rspec would show caller ID names? Is my iPhone setting wrong somewhere?

Phone book downloaded perfectly. All is working well. Voice recognizes names.

Thanks.

Driv - did u ever get this figured out? Same issue here.

This has been a chronic problem. At one point, I thought that an iOS upgrade would take care of it, but that didn't turn out to be the case. I don't know if this is something that Hyundai could fix with a software or firmware update, but I wouldn't expect them to do it even if it were possible.

This is an annoyance of mine too, I think it's how the Bluetooth connection is implemented. It always shows me a +1 and then the phone number (ie: the international exchange). I'm not making or receiving any international calls in my car, lol! However every once in awhile it'll recognize the phone # properly and give the name listed in my phone book. Very strange.

PS: I have an iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1.1. Not upgrading to iOS 6 and giving up my Google Maps! ;)

Must be an I phone thing.

My droid works perfectly. Shows callers name and number.

Android here also. :) I too have experienced this, and I think I have figured it out, at least in my application.

If I initiate the call from the phone itself, it only shows the number on the Genesis phone screen. If I initiate the call from the car, it shows the caller I.D.

Hey Smoov - I was referring to incoming calls. Outgoing seem to work fine with DIS and caller ID. Incoming only shows a phone number, even if they are in the phone book. I just updated to iOS 6 - so I'm going to remove the address book and the phone and then re-sync and see what happens. More to follow on that.

Interesting, and thank you for the clarification. I will have to check on incoming calls to see if it is an issue that is across both platforms.

When I'm in the car, I have it set up for auto connect. So I only use the DIS for incoming/outgoing calls. And it always shows the name/number if it is in my phone book.

Crusty - what type of phone do you have?

The latest Motorola Droid Razor Maxx.

My 4 s sees fine with and without the software update. I did have to delete all other registered phones and reset and load phone book though.

My Iphone and R-Spec do the same.

There was a thread a while back about caller-ID display. One of the things noted at the time is/was how you have numbers stored both in the car's phonebook and on your phone's database. Most phones will let you store the leading "1" in addition to the 10-digit phone number... that "1" is often stripped off or otherwise ignored when dialing in today's phone systems. The Genesis doesn't "know" to do that though. So if you have "1 310 555 1234" as a phone number and that person calls you, the Genesis "sees" "310 555 1234" as the incoming caller-ID number and thus it doesn't match anything in the database. Try stripping the leading "1" entries in your phone lists as a test. Worked on my 2009 Tech package.

Sometimes I see a name, sometimes the number, no rhymn or reason. I think it is jsut partof the same series of technical glitches the radio/ surround sound check box has. It does get annoying though!

After some testing last night and this morning, I have determined the following:

Outgoing calls originated from the phone itself generate no caller I.D. (only the number) on the in-dash display. Incoming calls answered (or denied) from the phone itself generate the same results.

Calls originated or received using the D.I.S. generate caller I.D. on screen, and show on the call history with caller I.D.

My phone is an EVO 4G LTE, rooted with S-off, running MeanROM 4.5. I am using an iBolt car dock, with an app called Bluetooth Switch that automatically turns BT on and connects to the car when phone is placed in the dock.

It will only display the name of a contact in your phone book. You may think the name downloaded but if you have 2200 contacts like mne there is no way to regulate who is downloaded. On my iPhone 3s my wifres name downoaded. On my iPhone 5 it did not and when she called her number appeared w/o a name. She wasn't in the download although her name begins with an "A". I had to enter it as a new entry. Problem fixed. You can go into your native contact manager, filter personal and other important numbers, download it to your phone, go to car download those numbers and then go back to laptop and download the full contact list to your phone again. Make sense?

Not sure about iPhone, but on Android, all contacts (among other information) can be sync'd with Google automatically, so in the event you switch phones, all you have to do is add the Google account to your new phone and *presto* you are done. No going between phone, laptop, PC, Mac, iTunes or whatever, all that is done on the phone itself; no need for any external devices to accomplish such a simple task. Further, if you want just specific contacts in-car, all you have to do is link those contacts to your phone, select which contacts to display, and those can be sync'd with the car. Again, all on the phone; no external devices required to accomplish.

Syncing contacts to your car is a separate issue; all that needs to happen is transfer of your phonebook (whichever one you select) to the car via BT. Granted, if you change, edit or update your contacts, you need to re-sync with the car so it can reflect those changes if so desired.
