  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wondering if anyone has ever experienced this.... Upon attempting to start (push start) all the cabin and dash lights flash on/off and starter makes a clicking sound for approx. 30-60 seconds (can be interrupted by shifting into gear). The serp belt, pulleys and stater gear move incrementally (source of 'clicking' noises). Also hear a gear sound coming from rear - assume fuel pump. Over repeated attempts (with both hood & trunk open to assess battery/starter) I have gotten it running a couple of times. Road tested & upon returning no start 'clicking' resumed. Multiple attempts to get successful turn over.

Present situation: not turning over 'clicking starter' & not starting at all. Checked positive terminal connection to battery and ensured battery fuse box is snug... No issue there.

Last year had issues with no start - replaced battery then subsequently had more issues. Returned battery under warranty & replaced again. Ultimately issues was resolved by adding shims to terminals, as poor connection. This is not like that at all. I had complete power loss with battery connectivity issue. I have power

Before I go down the rabbit hole of replacing fuses and checking relays, wondering if anyone has experienced this oddity of dash/display lights flashing while attempting to start along with 'clicking' starter/no crank. Just trying to save diag time and get to source of matter and don't want to replace starter if it's a fuel pump fuse or relay.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You have the classic symptoms of a weak/discharged battery on a modern car. Since it is a young battery, put a battery charger on it for a few hours and then try to start the car. You should get a volt meter and monitor battery voltage. You may find that it is low (less then 13V) while driving, indicating a charging system problem. (While the car is charging the battery, you should see close to or a little over 14 volts.)
