  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Currently looking at 2021-22 Genesis G90s that still have remainder of the 5/60,000 warranty. There's no Genesis dealer in the area, so I've asked Genesis what's the closest place I could get warranty service done, and they told me that would be a dealership that's 173-miles away. It would cost $400-600 each direction to ship the car there and probably similarly as expensive to have it towed, making it completely impractical for warranty service short of catastrophic failure. Does that mean with no local dealer, having a Genesis with warranty is pretty much useless?

No, it just means it's more difficult and time consuming to get service.

By my experience, a lot more difficult. I'm still trying to get the last two recalls done.

Where are you and where did you buy it (dealer's name)?

I read the warranty terms and it doesn't mention the procedure for when there's no local dealer. What does it involve?

I haven't bought one yet, but Genesis was at the top of my list. Came across a couple around the country with low miles still under warranty.

I'm near the Springfield, MO area. Nearest dealer is in Overland Park, KS. Genesis corporate is insisting that's where I'd have to get warranty service done, and they tell me they understand the need to have convenient access to their services. Therefore, they apologize for the inconvenience. However, I can rest assured their team is dedicated to making Genesis services more accessible. 😒

Of course they are, but it takes a long time. It has improved but it is a long story starting about 2016. I'm retired so I'd drive the 170 miles if needed but for many, not so simple.

Great car, hope you can find an acceptable resolution.

If it's a simple issue they could fix within a day, I wouldn't mind driving the 173 miles on the weekend, but that's assuming the problem is minor and doesn't affect drivability and safety. If it's randomly stalling or completely dead, a day trip isn't an option. Also should it needs parts that need ordered from Korea or something that needs a lot of labor and will take multiple days to fix, that'd cost quite a bit just in hotel costs. Since I still work, I'd also need to burn vacation days. Then there's the possibility they don't fix it the first time and I need to keep coming in, or if a problem is intermittent and I get all the way there and it won't act up for them.

I have a feeling by the time they get a dealer in my area, anything I'm looking at now will long be out of warranty!

You have a lot of hypotheticals here
Most important, you don’t bring in the car until the service department says they have ALL the parts in stock are has reserved them for you alone, preferably in writing.

So would this be your only car? ,
if it’s a warranty issue ask service and corporate if you get a loaner (I think you should) if it’s more than a day.

If it’s an emergency, Genesis or any other brand may or may not have a loaner.

Let’s be honest, Genesis is foolishly alienating many current owners by hanging them out to dry in situations like this. You have to wonder why they would think this is a good plan.

I understand the end goal of having Genesis stand alone dealers and it is in the works. Seems they would want one in an area where the cars have been previously sold before cutting off service with Hyundai dealers.

But there were also many current owners that have been alienated by incompetent and poorly maintained Hyundai dealers when they were allowed to service Genesis. Can’t win either way.

Agree. Genesis got into this mess when it tried to start up Genesis as a top of the line Hyundai first and thereby gave rights to Hyundai dealers. The litigation between dealers and Hyundai and this mess has followed.

In the meantime those of us in large cities where we have multiple Genesis opportunities and even more competitor opportunities are, IMO, fine. But if I lived in a location where I didn't have these options, I probably would not have made the move to Genesis despite liking the GV60P better than any competitor vehicles.

My combo Hyundai/Genesis dealer in the Richmond, VA area serviced my ‘12 Genesis just fine for years. During some of that time they were selling and servicing both brands.
It all depends on the local dealership.
