  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

They're just utilizing the DMCA as software companies have been for quite some time. It also only concerns ECU based adjustments as mods like intakes, exhausts, etc will continue to be legal. This is an issue for enthusiasts and hopefully we'll see some resolution as this will make it illegal to modify the ECU even for track purpose machines.

GM has also filed that it should be illegal to modify the looks of the car since the looks are technically a trademark brand and modification would be brand infringement (no joke). I feel they will lose that one though

.Gov Motors run by control freak communists, are and will be in conflict with local and state.gov.. Why? Because deep research in most states will determine that you do not own your car anyway.. You have a "Register with the King"- Title, registration and license. As one example, if you own a car which you store inside your garage (say you will not use it for a few years, or it is a something to be restored eventually) and do not keep current with the license plates, local (backed by the state) will confiscate your car until you pay or they will auction it off. That is not property ownership.

Now .Government Motors will be angling for the ownership of the car.. You will have revocable license to use it, as long as you follow their rules. It will never be yours. Which means, another representation of liberty and freedom, will be further penalized by eliminating ownership..

Anyone understand how your passion here, that represents liberty is still under assault? Understand this in the broader life picture for other areas?

are the drive by trolls going to come out and whine... Or PM's to admin to cancel this comment? We will see. Those that do are part of a problem that will eventually be resolved.

Mark my words, all your apologists for tyranny... And one day enough folks will have had enough. Your party of freakish control, despotism and slavery (of comfort and convenience for the few approved hard workers) will come to a not so comfortable end.

I actually agree with your statement regarding the lunacy of having the pay annual registration for a vehicle I bought. Property tax is one thing, but being required to register my vehicle with the local jurisdiction is a bit over the top.

DRS, you turn every car conversation into a podium for your very personal political belief rants. It gets quite old and is very polarizing. That's why you turn a lot of people off (me included). I'm sure my comment here will get analogized by you into some political caricature.

Understand that I read every post on this forum. Every single one. It's not a PM to anyone that gets the attention. It is me reading it and determining if the comment leads to a safe and inviting community. If you notice, I have edited your post to take out a more egregious comment but have left the rest as it is your personal opinion and are entitled to it as long as others do not feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe.

Have a great day!

I serve up the prose in this context to add a broader look at what is going on regarding our liberty. When the topic was brought up about GM, it was a good time to add that broader context and be a blunt instrument for people to think just a little deep about this topic...

It is not every post... Not most... This was was juicy topic to expand for all those who are performance auto fans... And many/most also have a culture of "do not tread on me" when it gets right down to it. Turning up the heat to connect the dots.

Let's all be "safe and secure", "welcomed into the galactic empire".. Says the shriveled up Emperor Palpetine... Let's be Sal's "Darth Censor" enforcer to force "harmony and peace in the reorganized galactic empire". Could not resist a little Star Wars paraphrase humor/fun (since the new movie is coming out this year). All coming out with applause and cheering to the death of the voice of liberty.

The "Egregious" wording removed will prompt a response that cannot feign/hide neutrality and "safety"... But now, no such opportunity to make a choice.. Accepting tyranny, or not..

Here is a safe, comforting, welcoming video for viewing pleasure... All to thundering applause..

Freedom of speech doesn't apply in a privately owned space. He's allowed to be Palpatine in a forum runs.

This forum is not privately owned by admin... Only licensed to use... Wonder what the license allows.. :)

My comments about "safe and secure" galactic empire apply here.. But here is a microcosm of the "group think" of the brainwashed masses chaos being promoted in the country and the circles of power. That was the main focus of the points.. The code words being used here are in jack boot lock step with the overlords training we all endure (for now).

Back to the point.. .gov motors are part of the plan. To take symbols of liberty, and take total control and eliminate "ownership". One of trendiest and top planks of the Communist Manifesto. Eliminate property ownership. And that includes ones flesh (your body under regulation control of the EPA for CO2 and methane emissions.. As one extreme example). To numb down people into compliance, .gov motors and other suppliers ripping ownership away is part of the "resistance is futile" strategy. And way too many people in this forum could care less that .gov motors uses technology spider web chaos as part of the elimination of property owned by a individual.

But, do you not agree in this scenario that the company that paid potentially 100's of millions of dollars (please, let's put aside for a minute that .gov owns equity stakes in companies like GM, which means tax-payers' money) to develop a very complex computer algorithm and encryption scheme should be able to protect it's intellectual property from tampering?

The title of the article linked in the OP is a bit misleading and fear-mongerish. They (the car companies) don't want to "prevent you from working on your car". It's not saying that you won't be allowed to change your oil, lower your ride, change wheels, etc. This is a basic intellectual property argument at its core. It's the same basic argument that Microsoft raises when Chinese "programmers" alter the underlying code of their software and then try to distribute as a genuine MS product. The altered code: A) Isn't properly vetted for compatibility; B) May be less secure; C) Infringes on the company's registered trademarks and copyrights.

Irregardless, we're talking about publicly traded companies here, not the government. Your attempts to tie this discussion into your political agenda is distracting and dishonest. Besides, didn't the government sell its shares in GM like 2 years ago? Are you implying that all domestic car companies are acting as agents of the US Gov't to strip your rights? Cites please?

DRS, in all honesty you sound like a freakin lunatic. One of those crazo conspiracy theorists who takes something and manipulates it to whatever message he wants...This is a car forum, not a way for you to push your crazy outlandish and outright unfounded political views. Take that crap somewhere else.

Knock it off... You are the one going nuts... And quit using code words that you use to call out what you and your racist buddies call "goy".

Same control freeks like angry guy a post or so above, are drawn to work in .gov and large corporations to apply their busy body enslaving "we know better than the cattle" activities. This time shrouding it in "intellectual property". And their is the obvious.. They claim they own the property, and you only have a revocable privilege to use. You never own it... And as you notice the article correctly mentions, the essential property they claim to own actually controls most or all drivable aspects. Without this network, the car is not capable of being driven.. Even if they "allow" you to think you own the wheels, they are useless if the car will not run.. I guess one could strip the parts of the car not "connected" to their "IP".. That will be temporary. They will eventually claim the wheels too.

As Francis Shaffer said.. To paraphrase... "I would rather be under the thumb of the common criminal. For this thief will eventually get his fill. However the busy body do gooder has a unlimited thirst for power and control. His or her belly never full, always hungry, always employing ever more tyranny.."

Patents are not licensing and loss of property rights... Those who purchase one thing classically patented, owns the product. Originally allowed even to duplicate for personal use and not commercial gain. Using the .gov motors (and others) idea of licensing, retaining ownership, for essential parts (and eventually the whole) is not about protecting them from the Chicoms. Patents are the common law attempts to do that.

I ask you do not listen to the shrieking globalist elitist voices, like what we see attempting to bully me a coup,e posts above. They are the ones who are a direct threat to your offspring's liberty.

As for .gov motors, I will always use that nickname. Regardless if they paid most (expect for the Money given to the unions by tax payers and their money machine) of the tax paying people, the name will stick as a common reminder.. One day people will figure out the ends do not justify the means...

Ummm, I'm willing to bet my life savings that it's a reference to the TV show 'Breaking Bad' and that he's not literally using a Jewish name that is his own. Thanks for taking this racial though yourself.

Political discussions are against the rules here. I've been letting some of the automotive related political discussion to slide but it isn't doing anything good for the community as a whole.

Any further political discussion will be deleted by me. And if it continues to occur, further account disciplinary action will be taken.

This is a community about the Hyundai Genesis cars. Stick to the subject.
