If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I purchased my V6 Genesis w/ Tech about one month ago. It was built 10/08. Incidentally, the dealership I bought it from (about 100 miles away) was on a freshly paved road, as was the highway. When I got home, I started hearing a loud drone noise in the left front. I took it into the dealer and they had it a total of three weeks. They replaced the wheel bearing, lower control arm and a couple of other items.

Now, the drone is mostly gone, but it's still noisy on "normal" roads... Not "turn the radio up til your ears bleed" noisy like before, but still noisy. On great roads, it's relatively quiet. The tech said he believes the tires are simply transferring road noise via the spindle. Hyundai engineers directed him to replace the wheel bearing and control arms, which did help. He just said those tires don't like non-ideal pavement. He said he was surprised when Hyundai put Dunlops on the Genesis as even the Sonata has Michelins. I do agree with him.... but I don't find it acceptable.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm very disappointed with these junk tires, though it's not surprising. Every car I've purchased with Good Year or Dunlop tires has developed some sort of tire issue. Now, I typically just junk the tires immediately upon purchase and go with Michelin. I notice an immediate ride and noise difference in most cases.

With 500 miles, I'm not eating the cost of Michelins. Does anyone have a contact e-mail address at Hyundai? I'd like to respectfully ask that they share the burden. I can only find phone numbers and I prefer e-mail so everything is documented and things don't get lost in the shuffle.

Thank you guys!

its funny how i hear all these bs complaints on here and weve sold about 20 genesis and havent had anyone report any of these oddball stories i hear on here. just strange to me.

Yes, it's hilarious. Apparently I'm not the only "oddball" -- Hyundai told the dealer tech that they've had reports, which is what led them to the control arm and wheel bearing.

Thank you for your useful insight.

Wish I could help. My Genesis is as quiet as a tomb even at triple digit speeds.

I hope all goes well......keep us posted.

I am sorry for your problem.. allthough I do not have noise I find the dunlaps terrible tires. Due to a defect in one tire the dealer unable to find the 5000's installed dunlap sp sport signitures and my handeling improved

You sell cars and don't BS I think that is odd. If you sell 1st model year products, even with this car's production standards you should be looking for oddball issues listen to complaints with compasion to midigate customers comming at you with pitch forks

Just spoke to the dealer. They're going to work with Hyundai engineers over the next week or so and then I'm going to be out of town the week of July 6th so they're going to implement any changes Hyundai recommends. They seem convinced it's transferring excessive road noise through the spindle and into the car as if there's a dampener of some sorts missing. They have difficulty reproducing it in the shop as it's not a drive wheel... so they have to make adjustments and road test it. It's been a slow, painful process.... a month of ownership and I've only actually HAD the car in my possession a few days total.

Thanks for the support, guys... I'll be sure to keep you updated in case others have the issue.

You sell genesis doesn't mean the complains are BS. Would you please care to share your dealership name?...

Hey, don't be hard on Speakthetruth. With every car I've had problems with in the past, the dealer service department ALWAYS SAYS, "this is the first I've ever heard of it", or better yet, "Nobody else has ever complained about this".

I once had a Honda Accord EX, (the best one they made), and it must have been made on a Monday or Friday (in Marysville Ohio), as I had so many problems with that car. Dealer always said that this was the first he ever heard about it, that nobody else has ever complained about it, and the one I hated the most, "I'm sorry but we can't duplicate the problem". Come to find out, the regional service HAD heard about these things, and I did get some of the problems fixed, but the Accord continued having other problems, so I traded it for a Toyota LX which had no problems in the 100k miles I owned it.

As for Hyundai, when I asked two different Service Writers at my dealer, plus a Sales person and service writer at a second dealer about the very hard ride in the Genesis, I got their stock answer. "This is the first I've heard about this" and "Nobody else has mentioned this". (They must be trained to say this).

The suspension issue is just something I will have to live with as I don't complain directly to Hyundai, and even if I did, I know they won't do anything about it. (The stiff suspension is the only thing I don't like about the car).

He's supposedly from Priority Hyundai. I nearly went there to get a Genesis... sure glad I didn't based on the tone of his posts.

Come on guys.......... you're being too hard on him....... lord knows I've had my own issues with the way Speakthetruth communicates but I can see why he would say he has never heard of that problem....... because most people do not report such a problem...... when my dealer asks me about my car .... I tell him everything is great....... because I have had no issues..... no suspension issue... no tire noise issue.... no issues period..... I suspect this is the case for most....... so it is not odd to me that a dealer has not heard of a specific problem on a new car like the Genesis........

I don't know where you got his dealership name from....... but for me it is scandalous that you would post that here........ his opinions have nothing to do with the dealership......... by posting the name you are in effect saying don't shop there....... I know you have the right to post what you want but it is in my view not important to this or any other discussion where he works..... Where do you work ?...... perhaps if I here you say something odd I can report that to your boss.....

He posted that he sells for Priority Hyundai... he's repeatedly stated that he's a salesman. It wasn't a revelation on my part... I'm glad he did. I have no interest in dealing with such a salesman and I'd suspect others don't as well.

I think my point was simply, "I've not heard of that problem" is different than "bs complaints" and "oddball stories." Delivery and tone are everything. As best as I can tell, nearly all of his posts are trolling and confrontational in nature. Why he's still here is a mystery to me, but it's not my site.

I'll definitely be more mindful about posting problems in the future, that's for sure.

The Dunlops on our Genny were the 1st that we've ever had. Don't know if they're junk or not. However, our Sonata came with Michelins and we were so glad the day we replaced them. Replaced them with Kumho tires that were cheaper, quieter plus handled better on wet roads that the Michelins. Until the Sonata I thought Michelins were the best tires. But not now. I think the high mileage compound that they are using with their OEM tires sucks. IMHO.

You could be right, Don. The only car I've had that came stock with Michelins is my wife's Camry. I don't drive it much, so I can't comment on the quality of the tires. I do know that my 07 Silverado Crew LTZ came with Good Years and I replaced them at 1500 miles with Michelins and the difference between noise and ride were night and day in my opinion. Same with my Lincoln, Expedition and several other vehicles I've had.

I just recently had new tires put on my 45' motorhome (incidentally, Good Years as I believe they make a better heavy truck tire) and even the tire dealer who sells Dunlops said "We get more Dunlops coming back for noise than just about any other tire we carry." The tirerack reviews seem fairly consistent with that as well.

I could be wrong about the tires... and if that becomes the case and it's a deeper issue, I have no problem saving face and posting that. What I do know is, I have a truck an SUV and 3 cars... the Genesis is bar none, the loudest of them all (especially in the left front.) Something is definitely wrong and hopefully Hyundai and the dealer continue trying to resolve it. With the radio up, it's one of the nicest cars I've owned... and I've owned many. :)

Just heard from the dealer... they said there was likely a bad batch of tires last year as they have 4 Genesis's on their lots... 1 makes the same noise and was built around the same time as mine (10/08) the others are quiet and were built this year.

They gave me the paperwork and pointed me to the Dunlop dealer. Will give that a shot and see how it goes.

once again, yall take things a bit too seriously, i meant oddball..meaning odd, not saying they werent true. not insenuating that yall were lying, i just wish i knew of these so i can let people no up front so it doesnt sound like were hiding anything. that is one of the reasons i get on here.

for one thing, llt my customers adore me and i sell 20plus cars a month..yea i shouldnt have said bs but maybe what i meant by that was before yall get on here and state a problem, not just you. find out what it truly is then comment because what you do is for people like customers that i refer to this site, when they see you quickly run to your keyboard and type in negativity, it makes it look by your TONE that your implying the cars a piece of ishh..thats what im talking about.

post once you find a resolution before you badger the car and the manufacturer. where i work doesnt matter either, i have freedom of speech to get on here and say what i want and your comments will NOT affect me one way or the other. imma get mines because i do MY customers right, maybe if you didnt buy from where you bought your questions or concerns would have been answered by now. take it easy.

ive never had a customer have to resort to calling hyundai for anything because i take care of it for them just like everyone at my dealership believes in and does.
