  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick vent of frustration. It all started Saturday when I decided to install all my winged emblems (wheels, steering wheel and truck). All was going well until I removed the "GENESIS" letters from the lower part of the trunk. I apparently removed some clear coat when removing the letters. I used a hairdryer and extreme caution, but somehow there are two small (less than half a dime size) spots of no clear coat...... Then when removing the flying "H" off the trunk (which came off without any paint problems), I proceeded to rip my fingernail right down the middle about half way down the nail itself, bled all over the sidewalk.

Come Sunday (yesterday), I ran to the store to do some shopping. When returning home (I live in a neighborhood of various townhome communities) I pass a sheriff's car leaving my area and they flip a u-turn and pull me over (200 yards from my house!!!) They take forever to approach my car and they proceed to ask multiple times if I have any drugs or guns in the car (I live in Orange County, Ca mind you), or if there is anything they should know about in my vehicle. My wife sees me from the house and comes over, the cops yell at her to stay away and then she ends up over where they are. One cops says to her that I went into a neighborhood that I didn't live in and it looked suspicious.... They never told me this to my face, and I am not sure where they cooked up this story…. I have no clue where this comment came from, I came off the main road and was almost home when the cops saw me. Long story short, they said they pulled me over for no front plate and tint on my front windows...... wrote me a ticket for both…….how dumb.

So now I need to pay $50 in fines plus court fees (so probably $100 ticket) then I need to pay $40 to have my front tint lightened.

Then taking my kid to daycare this morning a rock flew up and chip my windshield..... WTF!!!! My poor car is only 2 months old and the paint is screwed up and the windshield is chipped.... not a fun 48 hours.....

:mad:Sorry, pointless information, but I had to get it off my chest.....

The good news!!!!
The panel that the Genesis Emblem is on is Plastic and can be replaced but it does not come painted so body shop will have to paint it. They may be able to buff out the spot on your panel but I doubt it.
Order the OEM windshield from the dealer.
I removed the Genesis 4.6 from my car and it left some of the shadow of the lettering so I order new lettering and put it back on. I would not advise anyone to remove the lettering it is just to risky as the adhesive seems to set up harder than on the H emblem.

I had the tint shop guys remove the 'Genesis' on the back along with the dealer logo and did not have any issues at all.

I was waiting for you to say they pulled you over because you had blood all over the back of your car. Still a bizarre story...

Racial profiling, perhaps?

Racial profiling, perhaps?

please don't go there. maybe the fact that he has tinted windows and no front plate and that's a motor vehicle violation would justify them stopping him. maybe he was nervous (or angry like i would be)to the point they thought he may have something in the car that didn't belong. and what he described is what HIS WIFE told him. mind you i'm certain she was nervous and pissed at the same time and "may" have misunderstood the exact reason they asked about drugs and weapons. btw, if you ever watch cops or those other shows it's usually the drug DEALERS and gang bangers riding around in tinted out cars (yes, they screw it up for all of us). just don't immediately go to the race card man. it's 2011 can we get past this? We have a black president how much more proof do you want that not EVERYBODY is racist?

Rant over.

Yeah, they purely pulled me over for the tint and the license plate, my wife was not nervous at all. I told her as she walked up that I was waiting for my ticket due to my tint and no front plate, this was before she was asked by the cop to not talk to me. Then he proceeded to conjure up this story about me going to another complex, my wife even asked where I went and all the cop said was "he went to another one that you don't live in," and wouldn't say more.... she (and I for that matter) are still confused why he said it and what it had to do with anything, beyond being a lie.....

As I said, it was the complete "good cop, bad cop," situation. I am 99% sure it was a rookie cop with his FTO (Field Training Officer). The FTO was a jerk (bad@$$ type) he was the one with all the gun/drug talk, the other cop was maybe 22-25 years old, really nice, even kind of nervous. As he gave the citation he even said, "sorry man, but there only like $25 per citing." I guarantee you it was not racial profiling, 90% of where I live is young Caucasian families and it is the boring old OC. The fact that it was OC is a better explanation as to why I got pulled over for plates and tint only, the cops don’t have much else to do.

I gotta good laugh about someone saying maybe they pulled me over for the blood on my trunk....

I am going later this week to see about getting the paint work done on the trunk and I already called the tint shop and they will remove the front tint and put a lighter one on for $40 (as long as I show them the ticket).....

Lesson learned. I am by no means saying what the cops did was wrong, I was cited for disobeying the law (purely by choice too), and I was called out. Petty reasons for a ticket, yes, valid, yes.

I don't mean to start anything, I just had to vent about my crappy weekend. Thanks!

You're right not everyone is, but there exists and will always exist racism.
That's just human nature. Face it.

This is by no means where I intended this topic to go at all.... I wasn't even implying that profiling was even envoled in my case.

Please, let's drop that topic and move on, I was just venting about a bad weekend.....

i agre with you 100%. it is in this particular case where there was no mention of race by either the cop being of any particular race nor the op and sooner than later "racial profiling" pops up. Sorry but here in NJ (where this became a "federal issue" back in the 90's it's a sore spot lol. till this day whenever i see a black or any race other than white speed past me on the turnpike or parkway i get a good laugh and think "if this idiot gets pulled over and ticketed you think they will think it's because they are _____ (fill in race)". sucks that it came to that and now it's a stigma (Hyundai uhummn) that can't be shaken by some.

I in no way meant to call out Ruissimo, just venting about an issue that i have a deep hatred for. there's bad cops just like there's bad doctors and bad lawyers, etc. but for the .001% that are bad, the good suffer (many family members and friends are in law enforcement).

op, sorry about your misfortunes but as my grandmother used to remind me "tomorrow's another day, it'll be better tomorrow" and "somebody's aways got it worse than you" some days that's about all that gets me through without giving up, we've all been there, on a project or a never ending day(like the op's dilemma).

i've had chips filled on my cars over the years and have varied results, i swear it's the way the wind blows if it come out good best of luck.

:) 11 G3N3SIS your story sounds like a scene from a comedy! I see Bill Murray dancing around with blood spurting from his finger! I think after the day you had the only thing to do is to flop down on the couch, knock back a stiff one, deeply exhale and have a good laugh.

WHOOOPS - man... I was totally just goofin' about the racial profiling - I apologize for the comment, clearly it was not thought-out at all.

See... that's the thing with cops - they don't know you. You could be the best, most up-standing citizen in the world, but to a cop, you could be the guy that takes him/her away from his family forever that night.

Not a job I would like to do, that's for sure. I know - I got cop friends.

I may have missed it, but did anybody posit the notion that the cop pulled him over in part because he couldn't figure out what kind of car it was? I've wondered before if it irks the police to not see the same badging/naming they see on the other cars on the road. (Not that there are many un-rebadged Gennys on the road anyhow, at least not around here (RTP, NC area).)

I think this is unlikely since all the officer has to do is put the plate number in the computer and POOF, it shows make and model. Be funny if they couldn't find out though.

When I lived in California my plates were "protected". You could run them all day and not get any info. I'm sorry you got busted for no front plate as alot of people out there don't run them for various reasons (especially Vette owners). Doesn't make it right but I've yet to hear a good rational reason for front plates. Most California highways have barriers so you can't cross over, the additional plate require more resources to make, and ship to the tag offices or to mail to the customer. It's just one of those dumb laws on many state's books.

how did you go about that? or are you saying it was a govt. (fed, state, county, local, etc) vehicle? i can't see a state allowing plates to be confidential as it contradicts the whole reason for plates unless it's some type of govt vehicle.

as for reasoning for front plates it's as simple as identification purposes. no front plate you are half "anonymous" to the rest of the public when in motion. very useful in law enforcement.

I was a Federal Agent at the time and they allowed the plates on our private vehicles to be private for security reasons.

I have to disagree with you on the front plate issue. Try to read some of these front plates driving down the road. It is all but impossible. Texas wanted to do away with front plates but even with all the evidence provided that you can't really read front plates the the Highway Patrol lobbied to keep them. They won.
