  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After being on this site for a while, I just don't get some of the structural decisions of the forum. My biggest gripe is the Technical Discussions section. There is way too much structure there to be useful. There are 3 actual sections in there hidden within 5 folders (if you will). Simply splitting them out as follows would increase site usability:
Hyundai Genesis Sedan Technical Discussions - 3.8
Hyundai Genesis Sedan Technical Discussions - 4.6
Hyundai Genesis Sedan Wheels, Tires, Detailing...

Tree structures are useful when you have large numbers of items, but not with the small number we have (i count 7 for sedan...6 if you move Sedan Reviews in the News to the News section).

sounds like a plan to me....Sal...are you out there! :)

And while those sections have too much segmentation for the traffic, "Electrical, Lighting, Bluetooth, Stereo, iPod integration, DVD Navigation, Etcetera" doesn't have enough. It should be split into sedan and coupe, since they don't really share any of the same systems.

I thought of that, but since they are already merged, it is hard to split them apart, so I didn't bother. I'm hoping my suggestion is simple enough that it will actually be done.

I'll keep an eye on this.. Let's get some more input. I'll make the changes - I just want to make sure I'm not changing everything and then changing back because a bunch of people say, "wait a minute - you didn't give me a chance to say I didn't like the idea"... So let's give it a few days and hopefully more people will chime in with thoughts, ideas and suggestions before I make the changes..

Thank you!

So if I'm understanding correctly, you're looking for a forum structure like the following?

Hyundai Genesis Sedan Forum
3.8 Liter Lambda V6 Engine Tech
4.6 Liter Tau V8 Engine Tech
Wheels, Tires, Detailing and Appearance Modifications
Hyundai Genesis Sedan Reviews in the News
Hyundai Genesis Sedan Suspension and Brakes Discussion
Hyundai Genesis Sedan Technical Service Bulletins

Yes, that is the change I'm suggesting.

Before I bought my genesis, I was strongly considering a 2010 Camaro 2SS. A great forum I used to browse was the Camaro 5 forum . If you want an example of excellent forum organization, check out the site.

Now I know that we don't have as many members or topics but it would be great if this site could one day grow into something similar... not that this forum isn't already an excellent one. :grouphug:

I rarely use the "structure". One man's great structure is another man's rat's nest. My metric of a good site is how well the search tool works.

I find 99.99% of what I'm looking for on this forum with key word searches. It ain't perfect, but it does get me what I'm looking for most of the time.

There's probably not much Sal can do about making the search tool better, so I'll just shut up and be happy. It's a great forum, regardless of the structure or search capability!

I could add a Google search feature to the forum if you'd like...

Sal,

I don't know if doing so would add more capability than already exists with "Advanced Search"? If it does, then I'd say go for it. If not, then I wouldn't bother.

A Google tool "inside" the forum would obviously help filter out the tens of thousands of other hits I'd get if I were using Google "externally", but I get pretty good results with "Advanced Search".

Thanks for making the change, I like it! Searching is great if you are looking for something specific. However if you are just wanting to see what others with the V8 are doing for instance, hopping in the appropriate forum is much simpler now.
