If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

About 2 months ago, out of the blue I noticed that the trunk had opened by itself overnight, which caused the battery to die. Called Hyundai Assistance, they sent a truck out and got me started.

This event has happened 5 times already, today being the latest, and I have already taken the car to the dealership and they kept it for 5 days and could not recreate the event.

This happened, even though they key fob was not in my pocket, it was on my desk, so nothing could have happened with the key.

I am taking it in again next week, so they can keep the car and see if it happens there.

I know this is odd and was wondering if anyone has either had this happen or knows someone who it has happened to, and hw it was fixed. Thanks in advance.

Has it always happened it the same place IE - at home only, at work only.
Could be someone has a key fob with the same truck opening frequency in your vicinity
Just a thought

Salient point, Rickfen. Whenever my wife fumbles in her purse, garage doors seem to open. She carries a clicker in her purse. Also, every so often, our Granddaughter butt dials us on her cell phone.

Yes, it only happens when it is in my garage. I thought that maybe it was my garage door opener that was causing this, but it is only recently that it has been happening. There is only one new vehicle, that I know of in close proximity to my house, and that is a neighbor across the street who has a pickup truck that he keeps in the driveway. I am not sure if the truck has the ability to open the garage with a button in the truck, or if he uses the clicker that came with the garage door. That it the only thing I can think of that would cause this.

See my response to rick fen. I don't think it could be my or his clicker that would do this as he has been living here the same amount of time and this is only a recent problem <3 months>and he has been using his other cars, in and out. The truck is somewhat new. I will keep an eye on when he comes home and leaves.

I once left the trunk lid down but not latched...... Battery dead.. Wife then wanted be to be the same!

Why is there not a timer to turn off the electric?
A luxury car should not die this death!

Any Ideas?

Berni

Try changing the frequency of your garage opener. It should have that capability unless it's ancient. Then re-link the Genesis.

My garage door opener uses rolling code security, and since I open the garage with the car transmitter, when I get out, the trunk is not open, that happens sometimes between when I park and when I awake the next morning.

Also, after I parked the car this evening, about 1-2 hours later, the alarm system went off by itself, and stopped after whatever the time it is set for, but the trunk was still not open.

I brought the car in a few weeks ago and they kept it for a few days and could not recreate the problem, which if it is electrical, it would have to be after the fact, so they would not see what caused it. Supposed to bring it in next week for a similar inspection, although, I am sure the same result would happen.

A bit of a nuisance to do... as a test until you bring the car into the dealer use the button inside the glove box to disable the trunk electrics. At least that way the car will ignore neighborhood radio signals to pop the trunk. If you still find the trunk opens... it's something wrong with the mechanical latch parts or a flat-out wiring short that unlatches the trunk downstream of the normal electronic controls.

I turned it off and will wait to see what happens. By the way, the new truck that my neighbor has was used yesterday to open the garage and close it, and the same this morning, no trunk open, so I will cross that out as a culprit.

Sounds like the latch might need adjustment or replacing.

Why would it be the latch ? reason is that the trunk only opens while in my garage and I still think it has something to do with either a strange short in the electrical system or an outside electronic device that makes it happen.

Don't forget the trunk switch in the driver's door. Could it be snagging on something or have a short in the wiring?

Did you try the disable button (valet) in the glove box?
When it actuated the trunk cannot be opened electronically, you can only open it with the key.
If the trunk continues to open with the valet button engaged you may need an exorcist.

There are two fobs. Have both fobs been placed somewhere so that the trunk button cannot be accidently pressed on like when in a purse or cluttered drawer.

I turned off the glove box switch, and since 2/11, the trunk has not opened, which is good, but on 2/11 & 2/13 the alarm suddenly went off, but not since. Strange .......I cancelled my appointment today to give it more time to see if the trunk problem would go away, and hoping that can be attributed to the problem. Do you know a good exorcist <G>

Wife went to work today and forgot lunch. When I brought it to her I saw the trunk didn't look right. It was open and she didn't do it.Exorcist time.

Mike,

As a follow up. I did as you suggested, turned off the switch in the glove box, and it has not happened in 12 days so far. Had an appointment the past Monday to bring the car in, but told the service rep I wanted to wait a few more weeks to see if, by turning off the switch solved the problem. It should be much simpler for Hyundai if that turns out to be the culprit knowing that I tested it for about a month. Thanks again for your suggestion.
