  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Last night I was at the library with my kids... Found a series of books called
"The car book" By Jack Gillis

It is a book "recommending" every make model of car.

The 2009 version has the Genesis sedan rated a 10 of 10.
The 2011 version has the Genesis rated an 8 of 10 but has the Genesis listed as in the TOP 10 of cars with complaints against it.

Reading the book claims the Highway institute reports are used to determine the complaint rate.

I didn't know our car was so highly reported but more, why would a car with that many complaints still listed an 8 of 10 and carried a recommended rating....

I'm happy that my Gennie is an '09. :D Sorta keeps me from thinking 'bout a '12. :p (At least I haven't gotten that insatiable itch yet!)

I am going to look very hard at the 2012 RSpec if it closes the items which leave my car just short of perfect, I will trade up.

1. lack of full ecs defeat.
2. better shift program for aggressive launch, rev match downshift.
3. more aggressive handling..

but the first post was really leads to a few questions.

1. where can we find these complaints?
2. Why is this the only publication (i am aware of ) suggesting the Genesis is a TOP 10 car in complaints lodged?

Based on my experience (all that really matters to me) and feedback here, there haven't been a lot of problems.
Yes the navi/stereo has had a gremlin but the problem rate has been much lower (again for me) on the Genesis than any other new car I have owned.

Is it possible that you misread the list. Maybe it was for the Top 10 of fewest complaints? What other cars were in the list of 10? That might tell us something.

No I read it a couple of times... It was in the top ten of complaints, I don't have the book in hand to get you the others on the list but there were a lot of dodge in there... so it was the complaint list.

yeah, that is what doesn't make sense. It was listed as a best bet in 2009, which makes sense, but in 2011 it was also listed as a best bet , I just don't understand why you would list a car as a best bet if it is in the top 10 ten list of customer complaints...
I can't find supporting data for their complaint list anywhere.

Just seems likely sloppy publishing to me.

On sloppy publishing the 2009 version correctly listed the Genesis as RWD, the 2011 reported it as FWD

I have noticed in a few places that it says FWD. Once it was a supposed to be an owner's review bashing the car but he said it was FWD, obviously not an owner.
