  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am a new owner of a 2009 Genesis 3.8 sedan and I am coming up on my first oil change. I have a Castrol GTX can lying around and want to make use of it. I was browsing thru the forum and found people recommending OEM oil filters. So I would appreciate if you can tell me from where you guys usually buy OEM oil filters and if I have the part number right - 26320-3C250. I couldn't find it in any of the nearby shops. Thank you for your time!

I did purchase mine online from amazon. Or I purchased from my local Hyundai dealer. I never used anything but OEM filter or the Mahle which is who makes the OEM filter. And after over 200,000 miles had no oil usage and no engine problems.

Great! I shall check Amazon. Also the manual recommends Quaker State, is that what you recommend too or have you gotten better results with something else? Thanks!

I used Valvoline Synpower 5w30 from the time car was new. If you are going to keep the car for a long time then I recommend using a good synthetic oil like Mobil 1, Valvoline Synpower, Pennzoil Plat., I used 5w30 since I live in a warm climate but if in Canada then maybe 0w20.

Hyundai recommends QS because they have a worldwide agreement with Shell (who owns QS and Pennzoil in the US) to use their lubricants in exchange for "promotional considerations," which means discounts on the factory fill oil they use. The idea that Shell is better than other name brand lubricants is folly. I personally use and recommend Mobil 1 because it costs about $25 for a 5-quart jug at Walmart, and Mobil 1 is currently offering a $12 rebate for each 5 quarts purchased.

For the 2009 3.8 I would highly recommend the OEM filter, which has black hard plastic end-caps and internal green O-rings on each end of the filter just inside the end caps (in addition to the two black O-rings you have to install on the canister wand). You can purchase it any Hyundai dealer parts department, or at Hyundai dealers that sell parts online at about 25% off MSRP. There are some aftermarket filters that are made by the same company that makes them for Hyundai, but you would have to be very careful to make sure you knew it was the same.

When using a cartridge type filter, it is extremely important that the cartridge fit exactly into the canister, unlike spin-on filters which have much variation is size allowed because they all use the same screw on size, and the paper cartridge is already integrated with the rest of the filter.

I would also highly recommend 5W-30 synthetic, since 5W-20 was specified for better fuel mileage, not for better engine longevity. If you live in a very cold climate, you can use Mobil 1 0W-30 AFE.

I saw your thread about the rebate. I shall check it out.

I found some on Ebay, Amazon and hyundaioemparts.com, I think I'll order from them. Can you please confirm if I have the right part number? The vehicle filter also throws up 26320-3C100.

I live in New Jersey so I guess I will go for 5W30 synthetic. Thank you Mark!

The correct oil filter for the 2009 Hyundai Genesis 3.8L V6 is 26320-3C250

One of the big problems with aftermarket filters or Amazon/Ebay is that they sometimes list the wrong filter. The site above is run by a Hyundai dealer, and specifies the correct filter.
