  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took my Genesis to the shop again today for some repairs, recall, and a little service work.

I got a loaner as they said they would need to keep my Genesis at least a week, no problem, I don't mind that.

So, they gave me a 2013 Sonota 4 cyl Turbo!!! Wholy speed demon Batman... this thing will flat out haul the mail.......... I could not believe (with ESC on) it would burn rubber for a good 20' and then catch 2nd gear (automatic too) and burn rubber another 5-8 feet!!! I knew it had a good bit of power when I was getting on the interstate just after leaving the dealership, but, I had NO idea how powerful. I'd bet this thing will keep up or even be faster than my 4.6L Genesis from 0-50ish...... This thing does not have a turbo-lag that I could notice, and the power came on very quickly. Not roll on like the Genesis. Not complaining about how the Genesis delivers it's power more smoothly, but, on rare occasions I want to show my buddies the power of the Genesis, it's very unimpressive until you hit around 90-100 and it's still pulling like a freight train...... nothing impressive about the Genesis in roll-on acceleration IMO. Maybe the 5.0L is way different, I've never driven a 5.0L, but, the 4.6L just rolls on power kinda' moderately but it doesn't flatten out till beyond legal speeds that I'm not going to attempt.

Anyway, don't know if any of you have ever driven the Sonata Turbo, but, if you ever see on one the streets and have a chance to engage in a little street race (cough cough)..... be careful..... you just might get whipped.

I have driven both the 4.6 Genesis and the Sonata turbo. I believe its the low end torque of the turbo that makes it feel so fast ---Have had many turbo cars. Both Hyundai and Kia use this engine. Major testing from Car and Driver and Motor Trend ,I believe will show your 4.6 is faster in the 0-60 and quarter mile. The testing results of the (this ) turbo engine are inconsistent. There were in past posts for the Sonata that rave its power, but when put to the timing clock were slow. Hyundai's 1.6 liter turbo , also has its consistencies , quite slow when comparing power to weight ratios with other brands. It,s apparent that with the Hyundai turbos --- you get a good one thats really fast or you get one that is not. Hopefully the consistency will improve. Overall Hyundai has done an amazing job , offering beautiful cars at a reasonable price. Thanks 7i bigblock

I wasn't aware of the inconsistencies of the turbo as I don't follow the Sonota forums etc. Perhaps the "feeling" of better/faster acceleration comes from the Sonota being much smaller and certainly less sound proofing than the Genesis. But, the butt dyno is impressed with the "feeling" of power this turbo has. And the fact it burns so much rubber which the 4.6L doesn't do unless the ESC is off and even then it's limited because the ESC isn't totally off, it's kind of a "quasi" off. :) And then that sucker hits 2nd gear and doesn't just chirp, it burns rubber!! Now that's saying something.....
Anyway, my only point is how powerful the turbo Sonata feels. I'm glad I got it for a loaner. :)
