  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

last July (I think) I updated my Genesis GV70 manually via the USB stick approach. I was under the impression this would unlock future OTA updates. There's a map update pending now for months. I see it in the car settings, but the update button is disabled. Genesis customer service told me that I should be able to do an OTA by clicking that button and they confirmed I had a recent enough version of the software that it should have worked. They sent it on to their level 2 support. About 3 weeks later the level 2 support got back to me and "claims" I can't manually call for an OTA, but someday, some year, some time it will happen in the background. I'm dubious of this explanation as it is in contradiction of what their customer service claimed should happen. Does anyone have any idea about what the truth is vis-a-vis OTA updates? This really shouldn't be that complicated.

Thanks

Ben

I’ve heard that also. It happened on my Kia Sportage. It seemed to take forever, but it did happen eventually

I guess my issues is, why is the button there if I can't initiate the update. Why does customer service think I should be able to initiate the update. Why did it take 3 weeks for level 2 support to get back to me, and give me an answer, without explanation or time line that effectively tells me that nothing happening is normal and there's nothing more to be done on it. Why are they indicating that I'm getting OTA updates for free now but in two years time I will need to pay for them. When I pay for them, will I be paying for an update that could be applied so late as to not effectively happen in the time I own the car? All this information about how OTA works should be documented on a web site and not spewed out in an inconsistent manor from various people within genesis organization.

I got my 2023 GV70 Sport Prestige in July 2022. About a month later I had an OTA update message come up when I shut down the engine. The second OTA update came in at the end of December 2023. That was all the OTA updates I had. All I can say is that OTA updates are sporadic at best. I just do the updates via flash drive when they are released.
You should not have to do anything to trigger the OTA update. That UPDATE button (now disabled for you) will be enabled if you have a flsh drive inserted. I don't think it has anything to do with OTA updates.
Just curious: how can you tell that there is a map update pending?

I just received an update yesterday. I had one about a month ago also. The one yesterday was noticeable. The whole radio look is different. Much nicer than the previous version.

There was an update to iOS app last evening. Thoughts on what changed?

also any Canadian owners that can provide there perspective? I noticed on my Apple Watch that I can lock doors turn on climate control and a few other things. Anyone ask there Genesis rep if we will ever get the Apple car key function in future updates? Really want that. I mean for christ sake they offer it on Kia and Hyundai vehicles in Canada already why not on Genesis?

Can you post here the SW Version for that update?
The Genesis update site shows that the last update for GV70 is JK1.USA.P6.001.007.231101. This is the update I received in the last week of December 2023 via OTA.

Mine updated yesterday. the 231101 referenced above. The infotainment system has a slightly different look from what I can tell (better, IMO). The best thing I can see so far is that the volume increments and decrements at much lower numbers. Sirius played at 32 volume, now 8. Same with CarPlay. So it seems you can change the volume quicker. The radio sounds better too but that might be illusory.

Good question? My 24 Sport Prestige received an OTA update (USA) that I completed on Tuesday. I haven’t driven driven the car until this morning. I was surprised to find virtually all my preference settings were wiped to a generic default. I thought it was a radio update but my phone pairings had gone as had the map and radio presets so it was just like an off the lot configuration. Anybody have this and did previous updates do the same? Not an issue to reset everything but just a pain.

I bought my 2023 GV70 Sport Prestige in July 2022. I had a couple of OTA update and the rest were the old fashioned way. I never had the preference settings wiped, nor any other problems. Second and last OTA update I got was around December 22, 2023.

They updated the mobile app, yes...I can now control the car with my Galaxy Watch 6...when it works. Having the digital key is not a technical issue...US has had this since '22. Genesis Canada told me they made different decisions around these features because Canada is a different market. Does that mean Canadians are too stupid to use a digital key?

No, it means we're tough enough to carry a fob around...😏

Hummh. I have had a couple of updates on my GV60OP and haven't lost any settings. They are different infotainment systems but that shouldn't be happening.

Just received the nav/audio update yesterday on a road trip with the wife. Took about 90 minutes to download, then I had to click an install button. It's set-up this way because when you click install, the nav/audio aren't available. Install took 10 minutes. The only change I noticed is that I had to set-up my system volume levels again as the volume increments are now different (and better, IMO). If you go to Setup > General > System Info, there's an explanation of what's included in the update.

what changes did the recent changes bring to your GV70?

Something to do with gas station locations in the nav and audio system volume increments (max used to be 75 I believe, now it's 45). Probably some other minor updates that I don't pay attention to.

Mine recently updated and the weather widget updated so that it now only shows current conditions or daily forecasts (swiping it sideways). An update last year added an option for forecasts x hours out, which aligned with what my BMW did and I thought that was much more useful when driving. Unfortunately this update got rid of it. Why!?!
