  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just wanted to say, before I vent!, that I love my Genny! I have logged 10,000 miles on her and have loved every one of them. I Recently took my first trip, 3,000 miles or so, and what a blast that was. Never tired or sore and smooth sailin! Way to go Hyundai!

Anyway, I just wanted to let everybody know about a potential hazzard I came accross last week. While pulling on the drivers inner door handle, to open the door and get out, the Chrome plating on the handle was apparently peeling and sliced the crap out of my index and middle finger. It was like giant paper cuts that bled for about 10 minutes!! Once I stopped the bleeding and looked at the handle it appeared to be peeling on the upper backside so you could not tell by just looking at it. I checked the other 3 and they were fine. I took my car to the dealer and they replaced it immediately with many apologies. Has anyone else had this happen or is it just my luck??

I also had to have my rear window replaced as the defroster grid was coming off the glass. This is pretty comon though have seen it before on several cars.

I just noticed the same door handle problem on my driver's door (10K miles - never noticed it before, or else it just now appeared). The plating has peeled/separated along the top of the handle, producing a sharp edge. I haven't cut myself on it, but it could happen. I'll have the dealer take care of it next time I'm in.

Unbelievable, just yesterday I noticed the top of the driver's door pull starting to peel. I thought it was strange, but hadn't seen anything about it. Genny is going in for routine maintenance Thursday and, thanks to this thread, I will definitely demand a replacement. Thanks to the original poster!

This is one part of the interior of the Genesis that I always thought looked cheap. It looks like Chrome plating over plastic. Now that it has started to peel, it only confirms this. The Genesis would have been better off with a burnished metal finish, instead of this shiny plated stuff.

Same thing happened to me quite some time ago. I put some clear tape on it to keep it from cutting me again until I got to the dealer. As soon as I started to explain it to the service rep he said that Cadillacs had the same problem.

Took a while for the dealer to order a new one. It was replaced under warranty.

To me it was a minor annoyance. I have had this car for more than two and a half years and it is the best car I have ever had.

 That is really a SHAME for Hyundai, not only for having this defect on a premium car that was car of the year in 2009, but also because they just don't learn from past experiences. I wouldn't be surprised if the handles are made by the same vendor, with the same material that was used on the 2002-2005 Sonatas.

Recall says 2002-2003, I can guarantee this continued for 2004 and 05 models, probably not enough reports from owners of those years though.

I love Hyundai and the Genesis and other cars from them, if this was a NEW problem I wouldn't be so ballant but why risk the reputation of a beautiful car and the company for a known issue presented since 2009?

Complete oversight and careless from their part.

I never knew there was a recall on the Sonata for that. I had an 03 Sonata where the chrome was peeling off the passenger door and I had a friend who cut her hand on it.

Looks like they really didn't learn their lesson. I'm going to keep an eye on it.
