  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I was driving and all of a sudden lost xm radio thought it was a reception issue then abs tpms lights came on plus loss of power steering. So I was in rush hour traffic on an over pass trying to get to a place I could pull over, then I decided I would turn it off while waiting for the light and restar. No luck heard click click no juice. So all of what happened before it finally went tits up be an alternator? I never saw the battery icon/light come on many others as mentione. So I had it towed back to the house and put the code reader on it just for kicks mind you I had zero indicators indicating it had thrown a code…the odd came back with p0880. I tried to jump start it with a jump pack fully charged fyi only get a click. Any ideas? Was thinking the battery is so low not enough to tur it over? Or like the inter webs say a TCM issue? Where is that module located and would that make the vehicle act like a battery alternator issue??!!?

many thanks to all That can help!!!!

Sounds like a battery issue. All kinds of craziness can happen. I have another thread on batteries and prices.

Thanks I was thinking the same I’m just wondering if the alternator went out and then my battery drained? Last time the alternator went out the battery light came on then started to lose power. That didn’t happen today totally different

Not the battery had it tested and fully charged all I get is a clunk sound when I hit the start button all the lights and everything is comes on but the engine would a bad alternator cause it not to start? Doesn’t seem logical…

I found out that these cars actually run off battery power until the alternator is instructed to "charge". My alternator went out & took my 5+ year old battery with it... The good news was that the alternator wasn't terribly expensive. My indie mechanic was easily able to source a quality replacement & install the same day for under $300. Unfortunately, the massive AGM battery cost almost that much on it's own - at least I took care of that myself.
