Here is an update on the paint imperfections on my Genesis G90 SC. I wanted to gather all the facts before posting my findings. Took the car in to a stand alone Genesis dealer in Mentor, Ohio. They kept the car for 2 weeks. That dealer worked on buffing out the imperfections. Made it better. Now you can not see the imperfections in any type of day light. The only way to see the imperfections is at night under a florescent type light & the light has to be right over the imperfection to see it. That Genesis dealer does not do color sanding in house to correct paint imperfections & uses an independent garage to perform color sanding. Genesis said they would not pay for any further paint correction but would cover the cost to repaint the entire hood. I then checked with a local Hyundai dealership. That Hyundai dealership also sends out this type of work because they do not do it in house. Also the Hyundai dealership confirmed that Genesis will not pay for extensive paint correction, but would pay to have the hood repainted. They felt that Genesis would be paying for paint correction with no guarantee that it would make it perfect, so they go directly for a repaint.
Interesting that I was given a 2026 G70 loaner wile my car was in the Mentor Genesis dealer. Inspecting that hood I found the same imperfections as mine only less. When I picked up my car I looked at a GV80 on the show room floor. Again found only one paint imperfection, the same as mine, under the show room florescent type lights.
Since my paint imperfections are now so slight, I do not believe I would have them repaint the entire hood. I believe the factory paint is better & there is always the question on how well the color would match with a high metallic Savile Silver paint.
The Mentor dealer offers a
ceramic coating. Of course it is not done in house. The shop that does their
ceramic coating looked at my car & said they could not do any better correcting the paint imperfections. But their
ceramic coating comes with a 6 year warranty. Whatever that is worth.
I then took my car to an independent professional detailer that does
ceramic coating, paint correction, & is highly recommended. He felt confident (but no guarantee) that he could correct the slight imperfections.
I think I will go with the independent professional detailer, as I wanted to get the car
ceramic coated anyway.
One other Issue to mention. The rear passenger door has a sun screen. There is a small louvered door that closes when the sun screen is down. Mine does not close when the sun screen is down. You can press it down but it just pops back up. The Mentor dealer said the door panel & interior parts would have to be taken apart for the repair. My car is so quiet, with no squeaks or rattles, I questioned if there is any chance that an annoying rattle will develop after taking everything apart. The dealer said with this type of repair, a squeak or rattle may develop that is had to duplicate for them. They would do their best & work with me if there was a problem. But again, I think I will just let this go, as it seems like a hassle if it turns out bad & I get some type of intermediate squeak or rattle that I can not duplicate at the dealer. Sometimes those annoying squeak or rattles can drive you nuts when they only happen going over certain road imperfections.
All in all an outstanding car but some slight problems. Nothing is perfect even with a $100,000.00 car.
