  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anybody else had issues with the paint durability on their Genni?
I do a lot of highway driving. And have noticed my cars paint is really not holding up well. The rock chips themselves aren't the issue as that is expected. But it looks like the whole front of my car has been sandpapered. There is a very noticeable cloudiness touche clear coat. And I have also noticed it on the door panels next the the door handles. A good cut Polish is the only thing that seems to get rid of it if only for a short time.

Hah! speaking of which, I noticed that yesterday on the front passenger door, 3/4 of inch below the handle.
I guess, I'll be getting 335i next year :p

Sell me ur RSPEC cheap. I'll use it for spare parts, except the 3/4 of inch below door handle lol

I thought it was just me and the Perl White paint! but I found the R-Spec is far more susceptible to chipping and scuff marks than the 4.6 2009 ever was.

I mean she hit/touched the 2009 with the SUV while parking, paint got transferred from the SUV and wiped right off without any damage, while R-Spec is full of scuff marks and minor scratches on the door sill, just from getting into and out of the car!!

I am constantly having to go around (especially the front) with a marker paint pen and a good layer of wax just to keep the paint in good order, so I can give the R-Spec to the Mrs in couple of years, when it is time to upgrade hers.

All in all, I feel the older Genny body paint / coating has faired a lot better in 6 years with almost 60k miles, than my almost one year old R-Spec with less than 10k miles!

Ugh. Blasphemy! I Love my Genni. I will gladly repaint it with a smile on my face before buying another BMW. Other than the paint and having the leather on the driver seat replaced I have had no problems with my car. By far the best overall car I've ever owned

Also had a 335i. Worst car I ever owned. My paint base coat beneath the clear was messed up from the factory. I was smooth to the touch but looked like someone took a wire brush to it. Also, mechanically these cars are nightmares. Be prepared to spend 4K plus each year in corrective maintenance.

Bimmers aren't new to me ;) I've owned 2 E39 540's, last one 2002-2013 and I really didn't spent a lot of money on her, probably less than 2k a year, and that car had zero problems when I sold it 2 years ago.....that includes paint as well.
I don't abuse my cars, I tread them well and I guess it pays back, lol

I know the maintenance may cost more than genny but, what the hell! :D

ps.
Which one did you have, E9x or F30?

I spoke with my "old indy" friend and he said an F30 are much better than previous 3 series.

I actually had a first gen X5 M sport. Was great to drive, but a nightmare everywhere else. And my wife had a 540i and was in the same boat. We now have a Gmc Sierra and the Genni and a pair of murdercycles. Never been happier with my vehicle lineup.

I think most BMW besides the M line are over rated... .. I toast 5 series on a regular basis..
