If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yea I have the 2012 twilight blue pearl paint and my front bumper clear coat is peeling and I’m looking to freshly sand and re-spray it to look new....

is there a problem whit that pearl paint any recalls....

Yes pearl white has historically had relatively more issues with paint defects, peeling, bubbling, etc. than the other colors.

<soapbox>Recalls are typically for safety issues, not paint quality, so no there are no "recalls." After 8 years (9 model years) you'll be hard-pressed to get any dealer to fix a paint "factory defect" on a car. It's an 8 year old car. Deal with it. If you're that anal about cosmetics, pay a professional body shop to fix it correctly, then apply paint protection film.

I have a 2013 same color and I'm seeing the same thing happen. Plan to go to dealership.

good luck I don't think they are going to do anything about it,,they try to blame it on you ….

Just last Thursday, I went out to my 2018 Elantra to find a patch of paint pealed off my hood. Hyundai has known of this defect over a decade and still no fix. I went to dealership today. I was told if it has less than 60k miles on it, they will fix it. It does have less. Someone who travels for work a lot and puts 60k on their's in 2 or 3 yrs, are screwed if their paint peels. Not cool. The paint should last least 10 yrs.

its just ridiculous they don't make cars like they use to.. i owned 3 hyundai from 2002 ,,,2005;;;2012 to present i went for the top, the genesis and still have lots of problems,,,it took me almost 8 months to finally get a new rear bumper after the dealer painted it 3 times,,of course they tried to blame it on me ,but you could see little rust spots under the clear coat ,, now its happening on the front bumper but of course its out of warranty...this is on a 2012 genesis with 61,000 miles...pearl white

RIGHHHHT!!! mine exact same...

It has to do with the amount of metal flakes in the paint, there's a lot! And where that first coat was applied. I work for a parts manufacturer and we have an automated paint facility here. I've asked the engineers and paint experts about this since I have the same issue. Just because there's clear coat on the paint doesn't mean this can't happen. Rust starts from the inside and works its way out. From their analysis, it's not defective paint (unfortunately), it's the base coat that was applied which has metal flakes, then the main coats have metal flakes as well. Since the base coat has metal flakes and is directly on the surface, rust will happen within the metal flakes in the paint. It was a cost effective way of having nice satin metallic looking paint but what should have been done is a primary bonding plain paint coat, then the base color, then the metal flakes with base color x2, then clear coat. That would have eliminated this issue since the metal flakes would have been suspended between paint coats instead of being right on the surface of the body/fascias.

great info but does not help us guys who are having the problem,,you should send it to hyundai corp....thanks for the info

Any white car I’ve owned shows these pesky orange spots.
Extra pressure when waxing will remove them
I believe this is caused by brake dust which has some metallic content.
if you have a circular buffer, put your polish on it and apply until the spots disappear I use NuFinish
Let me know how you make out if you try

Wrong, the clear coat on my 2015 genesis has the metal flakes in it. When you peel the clear coat off with your finger nail easily it is cut and dry.

I have the same color 2013 R-spec. Clear coat started coming off a few years ago. Now it is starting to spread to the lower side trim. Nothing really on the main body, just the plastic areas like the bumper and lower sides.

Yes having the same exact problem on my 2012 pearl white Genesis. Only on the plastic parts the metal is totally fine

same thing on mine exactly

I just brought G90 2019 and I am noticing some rust spots on top of my car and other paint issues. I going to see if it is still under warranty for the paint. It crazy because the car has only 17,000 or so miles on it. SMH
