  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am curious to know what the paint process is for this car. How many coats of paint? Wet sanded between coats? How many clearcoats? Scratch resistant clearcoat, etc.

Also, is Hyundai going to start advertising the car?

I have seen several Equus ads on TV. I have Direct TV so the ads are national. The closest Equus dealers are in the Charlotte and Atlanta markets so the ads are not for local consumption. As far as the paint, it looked exactly the same as the same color Genesis parked next to it. I don't think any of the mass producers color sand the paint on cars less than $100k. It would be a time, labor and money intensive procedure that would have to be done off line. The Sonata for that matter has a great looking paint job that has little orange peel. I think the robots that apply the paint are pretty good today and the latest generation of water dispersed paints go a long way towards an excellent factory applied finish. Infiniti at one time had a self healing clearcoat. I believe they have discontinued it due to cost.

Thank you for the response. The Lexus LS paint process involves wet sanding between coats. They also have a "self-healing" clearcoat that repairs itself at the molecular level. I have seen no commercials for the Equus. A ton for the Sonata and that is it. I have Comcast cable so it is a nationawide broadcast.

Here is a video which may be interesting to you, it doesn't state how the paint process is done though.

According to a few car guys I talked to the paint quality and process on the genesis is as good if not better as what Mercedes uses.

I do remember them saying the paint process for the 2011 Sonata is better than the Mereceds C class.
