  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After washing my 2017 Genesis G80 I noticed some scratches on the right rear of the trunk lid and top right rear of the fender.Don"t know how they got there or why.I have tried polishing them out but nothing much helps as the scratches are too deep as I can feel the edge of them with my finger nail.
I will try to send a picture but not familiar of how to do it.
It is hard to understand why someone would intentionally scratch my beautiful Genesis for no apparent reason.20180502_160236.webp

Wow, that really sucks.

Almost looks like something slid across the paint, like a bush, or a really bad attempt at cleaning. In either case I'd stop into a good body shop and see what they think. Get some options to improve or fix it.

Thanks for the replies.I took it to a detailer that I have used several times on other cars and he did all he could to make the scratches look better. He advised me that he could not remove them entirely as they were too deep.He cleaned, buffed and polished the area and removed the white appearance of the scratches.I am pleased with his work and won't have the areas repainted.

Did you take the car to a full-service car wash? My guess is that these are scratches from one of the employee's belt buckle left behind when the employee leaned across the corner of the trunk to wipe down the back window or far reaches of the trunk.

I have taken it to a full service car wash.I don't know when or where it happened so hard to place blame. After detailer worked on it the scratches are not very noticiable so will just leave it as is and be careful where I park it.

Woman's purse?

Man's purse?

Well I feel for you truly. It's Murphys law sorry.

These type of scratches can be removed by the right detailer. It takes patiences, time and the right equipment. They look like clear coat depth scratches. There are very good detailers out there you just have to look and ask around for the right one. Check with the dealer and ask who they use for body work. Then get the skinny from the body shop who they would recommend to polish them out properly. It can be done and you won't even know they're there.

I could instruct you how to do it and what compounds to use but if you don't have the experience or the touch I wouldn't try it. You can burn the paint and make more of a mess. Don't just take it to the first detailer you go to, ask around first.

Thanks to all for the responses.
I will talk to dealer when I take my car in for servicing and ask who they use to remove scratches.I hardly notice the scratches now unless I try and see them.I will take a picture of how they look now, today and try sending it on this forum.

Maybe Franklin TN is too close to the Nissan auto plant in Smyrna TN?

Actually, a wild guess is the car was backed into something like plants, shrubs, trees, or maybe something else similar that may have scratched it. The one scratch in a "V" pattern is suspicious.

It looks like intentional vandalism: the Mark of Zorro.

I think you are correct but I don't know when or where it happened.
I am attaching some pictures that shows how the scratches look after the detailer did his work. Not perfect but acceptable to me.
