  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A few days ago I discovered the Hyundai Genesis. The reviews on this car looked to good to be true. Yesterday I test drove one for the first time. It blew me away. I ended up making a deal to buy 2 3.8 sedans each with the tech package. The only catch was that they both had hail damage that the dealer says was repaired 100% by paintless dent removal. The sticker has stamped across it something about previously titled used car and the price totals are marked out with a felt tip marker. Each car has around 20 miles on the odometer. The dealer says the only thing I lose is the 10 year 100,000 mile part of the warranty. Since I will likely sell before 5 years or 60,000 miles, this is a non-issue. That part of the warranty is not transferable anyway. The price I got on these cars is better than any price I could find in these forums for the same equipped car, including the "what did you pay" thread. The dealer is also local. I thought I'd have to travel at least a couple of hours to get a good deal.

Is there anything I should be concerned about on this hail damage paintless dent removable done on these cars?

I see I put this in the wrong forum but the question is generic to any car.

"Previously titled" and "20 miles on the odometer" don't make sense to me. Does that mean that someone else owned them, had hail damage, and sold them back to the dealer after driving only 20 miles? I would definitely want to know more about their exact history. If you do decide to buy, you might want to have an independent mechanic check them out, too.

I'm curious why you would lose the 10/100k portion of the warranty? What was the reason given?

Didn't make sense to me either. The damage occurred at the port, oddly Dallas, before any customer ever owned them. Some reason having the hail damage changes things.

Something to do with them being labeled used. Just like if you sold a new Hyundai right after you bought it, the 10/100k doesn't transfer. They offered to sell me a wrap warranty for $1,800 but I don't need it.

USED , previously titled cars do not have the same warranty. Only 10-100K is for the new- original buyer.

That said, because of hail damaged- I must assume that the car was "SALVAGE"- why else would it be titled and "sold" with 20 miles on the odo.

If that was the case $8K off would be a price I would be willing to take.

Is that what you got off?

A car, retitled, used, body work- its a reasonable figure. Regardless of the sticker marked out, you know with options what the sticker would be. That's not difficult to determine.

There is no provision in PA to have a new car re-labeled as used. I suspect these cars were purchased and the hail damage occurred before delivery. The purchasers refused delivery of the hail damaged cars. Some dealers push through the paperwork before the customer has picked up the vehicle. IF that is not the case, I would run away from this deal.

I would assume that the damaged cars were purchased by the insurance company and then sold back to the dealer and fixed. Hence the used titles. This may indicate that the hail damage was enough to "total" the cars. If no glass was broken then the car should be as sound as new and a good PDR man can make the body look as good as new. This is a common occurrence in Texas where hail storms are severe enough to make the PDR business a lucrative one. In any case, if the price warrants the wrap warranty, get it and then drive the wheels off of it. When you go to sell them a Carfax report will in all probability surface and will question the deal to sell them. Reliability wise, I see no operational problems out of the ordinary.

I'm the proud owner of 2 2012 Genesis tech package cars. One is white pearl with beige interior. The other is silver gray with black interior. As I said I was blown away by these cars. I drive a 2011 BMW 535i. Had I known of this car when I bought the BMW I would have bought the Genesis.

I once bought a Mustang GT convertible that was sold at a deep discount because of hail damage. The damage was not visible at all. It was a great car and I never regretted owning it. There were no problems when it came time to sell or trade it in.

Fearless, congrats on the Genesis (or it is Genesi?) and welcome to the forum.
