  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

1 of the weird quirky issues I experience is placing the car in Park before turning off the ignition. Once I press the brakes to enter Park, Auto Start/Stop kicks in and shuts down the engine. And after I immediately hit Park engine starts right back up. All happens within seconds... A few times lately I've immediately turned the ignition off FIRST bypassing Park to avoid this.
Curious if there is any harm bypassing Park. Am I the only 1 annoyed by this? Whats the preference to power down the car?

I have the same thing happen to me. 99% of the time I just press engine off and skip the whole P button process

As far as I know it shouldn't matter, as shutting the car off will automatically put it into park.

I suppose you could always disable the auto start/stop when parking. You'd just press that button before stopping, then hit park.

Even so, it does sound annoying. Considering that, I'm glad the 3.3 doesn't have auto start/stop.

I know I am so glad 3.3 does not have auto stop and go. I assumed it did until I looked for the disable button.

I was just searching for this exact problem and came across your post.

Exact same thing happens in my GV80. Obviously not ideal, waste of gas.

Problem I’ve found when shutting ignition off before “P”….. the doors don’t unlock automatically as I’ve set them to when car is placed into park. Makes it a pain if you try to get out and open the back door….. nope, locked.

Just did a Google search for this exact issue and came across your post.

My GV80 does the same thing. Annoying and wastes gas.

Problem with shutting ignition off instead of “P” is…. The doors don’t automatically unlock when put in park like I have selected. Kind of a pain when you try to open back door….. nope, locked.

I had a rental jeep that did the same thing (shut down, restart when put in park, just to shut it down again).
My G80 does not have auto start/stop, but I usually just press engine off instead of park, and no issues with that so far. I have my locks set to unlock on shutdown, not park.

vehicle settings > Door > Auto unlock

can be set to unlock when you turn the ignition off instead of when you go into park.

Would that suit you better?

Will certainly give that a try. But, IMO, the auto start should not activate immediately upon placing the car in park. I’ve had auto start/stop on two high end German vehicles and they didn’t do this. Makes no sense to not have a slight delay to allow the choice of shutting off the ignition.

It did for me but aggravating that there’s a choice be Auto Unlock on ignition off (works) or Park (does not work). Frankly just one of many software bugs on the 22 G70.

I have a '22 and I don't have this problem. My auto start/stop is set to on most of the time. If I press park, it parks. If I press the break, it stops. I don't see any difference. Maybe I'm misunderstanding a little, but my engine never turns on and off unless I'm pressing the power button. This seems to work as intended. I do have my unlock set to park

“Engine never turns off unless I’m pressing the power button”?

It doesn’t turn off at stop lights? If not, then you have the auto start stop disabled.

If enabled, I’m saying it shuts the engine off when I come to a stop in a parking space. As soon as I hit “P” the engine restarts…. Even without taking my foot off the brake.

Let me try to clarify. The car applies the break when using auto stop and when using the parking break. My engine does not turn off and on when I stop with the auto stop/start on Or disabled. The engine remains on until I press the ignition button to turn off, whether in park or not, whether on auto or not. As others have said though, you can bypass pressing park at all and it will apply the break when you turn the engine off.

I think that you are confusing auto-hold with auto start-stop. These are two completely different things.

Ah. You're right, my confusion. I did not think the g70 had auto start/stop then. I will check the settings again.

I think the 2.0t G70 had it from the beginning.

Yes!! Glad to find this here. The replies have been helpful to find workarounds but it is annoying as heck to me too...
