If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Parking camera armed?

It is possible to arm the parking camera anytime so that it will come on when slowing to 9mph or less. When would you use this? I have been known to turn it on while parking but I always do that when pulling into a spot and my speed is already slow. If you arm the camera to come on it will likely come on and reset at any number of stops you make before you actually pull into a spot. It would be interesting to have it always armed. But the current setup is rather useless IMHO

I do find it to be useful as this is a large car and I never know if I am completely in a parking spot or if I am "between the lines". (The windows are higher than my old LS...and I guess I am getting older, so I don't seem to judge as well as I used to.)
It would be nice if you could just say "parking" and it would activate.

I usually "arm" it pulling into my driveway or a parking lot. but yeah it's pointless if you arm at because the next red light or stop sign it is going to cycle off when you start moving.

it would be nice to have it work above 9mph, but It is illegal in most if not all states.

It would be a nice option. Should be an option as it would be annoying at times too. I'd say the present system may be a bit inconvenient, but far from useless.

yes, having to turn the cameras on manually when approaching a parking situation is kind of annoying. I tell my kids it's like docking a big ship.

I think there should be an option for it to auto-arm when under a specific speed so that you can see what is front of you. and option to activate or deactivate that feature would be nice. Just like there is an option to activate or deactivate the back up camera.

I'd find it very distracting to have the camera activate below a certain speed, which it would do in stop-and-go traffic. But I do often use the camera when I'm parking, so it would be good to be able to turn it on from the steering wheel or by voice.

Well, it's a minor annoyance at the level of the other 2 - gotta turn on the cruise control and auto hold every time I start the damn car. Now it's a routine, get into the car and press 3 buttons - first "turn car on" and the rest two you already know :)
I agree w/waveman that having it coming on every time the speed is below 9mph would be terribly distracting. I am fine with having to press the button when I need to see a tight parking spot.

I agree with all if you that it is useful for parking. I’m questioning the “armed” aspect of the switch. It has a light to let you know it’s armed. My problem is that it only comes on once when slowing below 9 mph and then has to be armed again. As I’ve stated, it’s pretty likely you’ll slow at least once before the final maneuver into the spot.

I think I like the steering wheel suggestion the most, or voice, or a button on the shifter maybe?

Since I only have the 2015 "Signature" version of this car I'm assuming that the Parking switch gives you a top view? I would like this. This seems to be the only car that I have ever owned that I cannot turn in the seat and see behind me to park. My GF's MKX has a beeping chime that gets faster the closer you get to a wall etc. I wish this car had the same - it does chime on cross travel when backing up though.

With the Ultimate you get a 360 degree overhead view from the four cameras. Great to see parking lines or a car near you. You can select different views also.

As for the beeping, you should be getting a signal as you get close. I assume you have the sensors turned on? I find them very handy when parking or even getting close to the wall at the drive thru window.

Well, if you miss that feature from MKX, your gf can always do something like this for your gennie...

add your own sensors:

I use them on my '39 hot rod, they work great.

I'm pretty sure I have everything turned on but I'll double check... so just backing up I should be getting a beeping the closer I get to say a wall? I'm not getting anything like that.

I looked in the manual... I believe I have to have the "Parking Assist System" installed which has front and rear sensors... I dont have that - I believe I just have the "Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert"

I am not sure what you mean by “once”. i arm it before I am ready to park. Once I slow down it comes on. It stays on until I park.

Unless you slow below 9 mph while turning into the parking lot, turning corners looking for a spot, slowing for traffic. You get my point yet?

I think he means that you usually don't need the camera while you're looking for a parking spot. Once you've chosen one, you can activate the system because it's unlikely you'll exceed the 9 MPH threshold. That works for me whether I'm parking parallel, perpendicular, or entering or exiting my garage. I especially like seeing where my tires/wheels are relative to the closest curb. The older I get, the harder it is for me to be absolutely sure.

I sometimes turn on the camera when I'm stopped in traffic, just for fun. The warning "objects are much closer than they appear" definitely applies to the forward view. Makes me think of Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park. :)
