  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Parking Sensors Make No Sense

Pun intended...

I'm posting this in the Genesis section because the Equus section is slooooow.

With my 2014 Equus (I presume very similar to the 2015 Genesis) the parking sensors automatically turn on when you put the car in reverse.

But when you put the car in drive and begin driving forward the sensor turns off (over 12.4mph). OK, I get you don't need the sensors to function when driving that fast.

But at your next destination the front parking sensors don't turn on again as you decrease your speed to slower than 12.4mph. You have to hit the parking sensor button every time you reach your next parking spot. NOW

DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE?

My old 2009 Genesis didn't have this problem at all.... Does anyone know why it does this? Am I missing a setting somewhere?

In the Equus manual, sec 4. pg 113 it specifically states that the parking sensors turn on when in reverse and turn off after going 12.4mph but doesn't say anything about turning back on when approaching your next destination. This seems like a flaw...

Anyone else find this out yet? What do you all think or have experienced.

thanks,

That sounds ridiculous. Logically speaking, the sensors should turn back on when in a parking situation (slower than, say, 5mph).

I do not have an Equus and am of no other help. Just voicing an opinion.

I think there is an issue with your car.

I believe in my 2010 Genesis the parking sensors don't automatically turn on for reverse but once I turn them on with the button they stay on (at lower speeds) until I decide to turn them off. Even if I turn the car off and back on again the parking sensors will be enabled until I turn them off.

On my car - the rear parking sensors operate anytime the car is in reverse.

The front sensors have to be enabled by a button on the console - but they stay enabled.

So I think we have the same situation here....

Just to confirm.

At any point, when arriving to your new destination you have to hit the button for the front sensors to work. That is if I'm parking into a spot forward facing.

If backing in, the reverse activates the parking assists (which also reactivates the front) which is only good in the case of parallel parking.

Confirm if you can... and anyone else who has a 2015 Genesis or a 2014+ Equus.

No: It works like this on my '15 Genny - The front and back parking sensors are completely independent.

The back sensors are activated when the car is in reverse as would be expected.

The front sensors are turned on and stay on by virtue of a button on the console - There is a very weak blue light above the button indicating the "ON" mode. I turned the front sensors on with this button when I bought the car back in Feb. and they have worked as expected anytime I approach something ever since then.

Interesting.... Sounds like how my 2009 operated (as it should). Not sure what the deal is with this Equus... It makes zero sense....

When the light is lit up in my Equus (like yours) it actually dissapears when you go over 12.4mph as it states in the manual. The blue light only comes back when I put the car in reverse or I hit the button again.... BUT WHY!?

Your front sensor should come on and stay on with the console button push.

I've never even paid attention to whether the light goes off with increased speed since it doesn't matter anyway. But, as I stated, the front sensor has been on for operational purposes for five months with only one button push required.
