  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone experience the parking sensors arbitrarily going off without cause in temps below 20f.

The car was sitting in a parking lot for an hour with the temp around 15f and when I started to pull out all of the sensors started going off randomly. Now when I started driving they of course stopped.

Up till now, nothing like this has occurred.

Chance of frost or ice on the sensors? Others report snow does it so frost seems a possibility. I live in a different climate so no such experience for me.

I'm thinking some moisture perhaps... it went from 49 down to the teens but no precipitation.

I had frost on my car the other morning, but the parking sensors seemed to work normally and did not go off unexpectedly.

Though I'm not sure if there was any frost or ice covering the parking sensors.

I have the same issue with my reverse sensors meaning when i am reversing my sensors are always on. I live in Toronto and the temperature is -21 degrees Celsius that is -5.8 in Fahrenheit. Got up this morning let the car idle for like 8 min and took half and hour to get to where i was going. When i was pulling out i noticed my reverse sensors were red on the display and the sound warning was constant as if there is something there. I stopped and wiped the sensors clean and tried reversing again but the back sensors still went off. This never happened before and at the same time this is the coldest weather i have ridden in.

Will give an update shortly

Well it has been in the single digits again the last 2 days and the sensors are going off with nothing around. The last time I thought the sudden drop in temp may had something to do with it, but it's been a cold dry air and it is never an issue when snowing or anything like that... just the extreme cold. May try to get it in to the dealer this morning so they can see what's going on. If I get it in, I will provide update.

My guess is that the steam from the exhaust can cause reflections as I see more "random" events on cold days when you can see the exhaust of the car in front of you - even when they don't have their own sensors.

Update the reverse sensors were going off because of the frost/ice around the sensors. The issue was I took the car to a car wash the day before i had the issue with the sensors. Like i said before the weather was really cold around -21 and after the wash the car was parked overnight in an unheated garage. Next morning is when the reverse parking sensors were going off and by the end of the next day with the weather being a little warmer the problem was gone. Reverse sensors are working properly now.. so the issue was the car wash in the extreme cold and then ice/frost developing around the circular edges of the sensor.. you may not notice it at first but if you take a close look there is actually ice around the edges

I've had the same issue, but on a side note:

Allowing 1/2" - 1" thick ice accumulate on the front sensors from driving an hour in snow/sleet will disable the SCC radar. Also very heavy rain, as well.
