  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is it at all possible to have the passenger seat belt chime when unattached as driver side does? Can't seem to get the wife in the habit of buckling up.

I thought they both were supposed to. It is that way in every car I've owned in the last 10 years. Perhaps your wife is too light. The seats have sensors which are supposed to know if someone is sitting there but I've had problems with them registering with my children in other cars...even though they weighed over 90 pounds. Worse, I drove a rental car that disabled the front seat airbag because it was sure there was a child or small person in the seat...but the person in the seat was 200 pounds.

Afaik anything over 40 pounds in the passenger seat should cause the passenger seatbelt warning light to flash and should emit a chime of the passenger doesn't buckle up, although the chime is not immediate. Are you seeing the light on the dash? Does the chime begin after a short period, or can you drive for 5 min without it coming on? If so, I'd have a dealer look into it, maybe try another car and see how it behaves.

I know most of the car does this, but I'm not sure if the Genesis behaved the same.
I remember noticing my friend not buckled up after a short drive, and there was no seatbelt warning chime.
I am so testing this one.

BTW, you should yell at your wife to wear a seatbelt like I do to my passengers who don't.
Seriously, seatbelt saves lives.
After seeing a person shoot out the window on a high-speed rollover accident, I ask ALL my passengers to wear seatbelt, even the rear passengers when I'm on a freeway.

My family and friends all seem to buckle up instinctively. I just wait patiently for anyone who hasn't, before pulling out. If they ask why I haven't started rolling I tell them I was waiting for them to fasten their seatbelt. Never got an argument.

When working with some safety engineers I saw some pretty scary stuff. You don't really get an idea of the Physics involved in a car crash till you see the numbers and watch the high speed film (or, in your case, see the results of passengers not using the safety equipment.) The G forces that happen in a crash and the speed at which things happen is way too strong and too fast for any human to possibly protectively react to.

Very smart and polite way to ask the passengers. :)

Very true. I saw some slow footage of various car crashes and the testing equipments inside flying everywhere.
For example, even a loose object(groceries, etc.) on a 50mph crash can become a deadly weapon.
Don't want to imagine the damage that can occur to an un-buckled passenger.

If I remember correctly (manual down in garage), the passenger side just has the light on dash blink every so often, no mention of a chime like the driver. That was why I asked if anyone knew of a way to overide system. Most if not all passengers know to put on the belt, except my wife, she has to be reminded.

My seat belt light comes on and off intermittently on the dashboard, and the passenger seat belt light flashes when this happens. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it can be very distracting to the driver. Has anyone else had this problem?
