  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings everyone,

I've really enjoyed reading all of your posts over the past few days. You seem to be far more knowledgeable than I.

I purchased a 2012 V6 two weeks ago at Fitzmall. It was brand new, still had the factory plastic on it and everything. The problem has occurred since I purchased it, and it only has 200 miles on it now. I absolutely love the car. I had been wanting one for a couple of years now. I have absolutely no complaints save this.....

The passenger seat rattles (sounds like a really fast and loud tick, tick, tick). It's not the seat belt. I only hear it when I go over a bump, or when I drive on cobblestone. The back of the seat doesn't seem to be secured completely. I have to drive two blocks on the cobblestone daily, and I drive extremely slow when doing so.

Anyway, a few parts to the question.
1. Does anyone know what this is (can I fix this personally)?
2. Will this be covered by warranty, or the fact that I just purchased the car?
3. Most importantly, can I take this to any Hyundai dealership? The Fitzmall is 1.5 hours from my house. I only purchased there for the price.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if this has been brought up already, but I didn't find this exactly in a search.

I haven't had to take my Genesis in for any squeaks or rattles yet; however I have had a Lexus before and a Mercedes both of which I had taken in to resolve rattles and they were done under the factory warranty. The Lexus was by the far the most notorious for this. Also contrary to popular belief you can take your car into any dealer for factory service as long as that dealer belongs to that brand in this case Hyundai.

Thanks, ballasz...much appreciated. I'm off Wednesday, so I'll take it to the Hyundai dealership up the street then.

1. Why bother trying yourself, you just bought a new car!
2. Of course it will be, provided you didn't break it!
3. Yes you can, why not?

Just been through a similar situation with different circumstances myself.
I bought a used 2009 7 months ago, not from a dealership, but still under warranty.
I don't get my car serviced at any dealership for every day stuff (Oil changes, filters etc).
I had no working DRL's (Canadian model). Went into an Equus certified dealer and asked for them to fix it.
First question was "Did you buy it from here?" to which I said "No, but does it matter?" The answer was "No, it doesn't".
Proceeded with getting my info into their computer system and after 2 visits it was fixed under warranty.

Thank you for the post, Gurkha. I have some bigger friends/family members, but none of which have sat in that particular seat. So, I think that I'm good.

You might want to completely lower the passenger seat headrest to see if that's the issue.
Mine does rattle a bit over bumps if it's raised and no one is in the seat.

For me the passenger headrest rattles all the time. It is something inside the actual headrest (probably something to do with the active head restraint). I drive 99.9% of the time by myself so I'm thinking about taking the head rest off and leaving it in the back seat. For that one occasion someone is riding with me I can put it on.

For whatever reason, I always forget about taking the head rest off until I'm driving. Because of the active head restraint, it takes a little bit of extra attention to get her off so I can't do it when driving...

Give the shoulder of the seat a good couple of punches and see where the rattles are coming from. If its not the head rest I'd be surprised.

Thanks, Ash. I wasn't able to get in for an appointment on Wednesday, but I don't believe that it's coming from the headrest. The seat shakes quite violently when I go over a bump of any sort.

I have the same problem in my 2011 GC Track. When I have a passenger the noise is gone. On a whim, I unlatched the passenger seat and the noise was gone as well, even as it was sliding back and forth on the rails. I'll try the headrest this evening, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the latch connection at this point.

I had same problem with my 2012 genesis, i discovered the sound comming from passenger headrest, because its not strongly attached to its place, so try to lower the headrest till the end, because lowering it will make its base to get contact with the seat and will support it and eventually will prevent the rattle, try that i hope it will work.

I had this happen on my 2012 Genesis. Took to dealer and complained a couple of times. First time they said "we can't get it to duplicate." I said BS, its' obvious, let's go drive. Girl immediately saw it and even videoed it on her phone. Went back to dealer. Told "oh, that's on all the Genesis." Really?? A freakin' $45k car with a shaking seat??

I had actually forgotten about it until yesterday when I was taking a 45 min trip. Looked over and seat was shaking literally like a leaf.

The seat has four mounting bolts. They are easy to check and tighten. This fixed the seat "rattle" on my 2013.

Thanks for the suggestions, it was the headrest after all. Lowering it the entire way did not resolve the rattle, so I folded up some black cloth and wedged it between the seat and the head rest. Works like a charm and it is hidden.
