  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, I just got my R Spec friday night and here I am already looking to change things. ;) But this change is for the Boss. Seems she's a little upset that the passenger seat does not have a button to raise or lower the seat like the drivers seat does. So hence my question.

#1. Does hyundai or any aftermarket company make a passenger seat that has the same functions as teh drivers seat?

#2 If no to #1, could one buy the drivers seat carrage/motors and replace the passenger seat with it? I know the switches whould have to be changed as well. But the main carrage under the seat should not be any different from driver to passenger except for the extra motor and linkage on the drivers seat.

So what say ye? Can it be done? Has anyone else looked into this?

Thanks for your input. I have not looked under the seats yet as I just got the car but will take a look when I get the chance to confirm what i am thinking.

Crusty Old Shellback, I sympathize your situation.

Given enough time (or money), anything is possible. In the old days, before side airbags and interconnected computer for this or that, in theory you could swap the driver's seat from right hand drive market (UK, HK, Australia, etc.). But, I don't think they have Genesis yet in that market.

So, you need to be creative DIY or pay someone to transplant all the motors, etc. from the driver seat of an extra seat ordered from dealer/online ($$$$).

Alternatively, you can use the $$$$ to buy her a new diamond ring, etc. to ease the pain ;)

i think if you purchase a salvage driver's seat the color of your interior complete with the electrics etc then use the trim from your passenger seat and install the control buttons and wire them to match the seat movement then it ought work. The cool function may the hardest thing to work out.

It is possible to raise the passenger seat. I have done it.

To raise the passenger seat you place some spacers under the seat rails. It has been some time; and I no longer have the '09 which I did this. My recall is that with the front I placed washers underneath the mounting bolts, actually bought longer bolts. The rear was a bit tricky, but was able to use some hollow bar stock to build up the mounting. I may have this mixed front to rear, but do recall that one end was very easy and the other took some imagination.

Unfortunately the R-Spec has bolts out of the floor with nuts holding the seat in place. I was able to raise the front of the seat about 1/2 an inch by placing washers under the seat rails but the bolt length limited it to just that. I did it to the front simply for more thigh support. Don't see why it couldn't be done to rear bolts as well.

Thanks for the replys.
Adding spacers, washers or bar stock is not what I am looking for. To me, that is just a band-aid on the probelm. I want a fully functional electric seat that will move up and down to fit the passengers needs.

I'm not too worried about the seat cool function but that would be an added bonus if it did happen. I'll look more into the seat undercarraige when I get a chance. I'll be sure to post my results as I go down this road.

As for me and DIY, my wife would say I'm the king at DIY. ;) So modifying the seat to do what I want is not beyond my capabilities. I just didn't want to reinvent the wheel if someone else has already done it.

An article was posted in this forum a week or two ago about Hyundai rolling out their new global luxury brand (funnily enough, to be called Genesis) in Australia. If the Genesis is currently sold there, you might see if you can get a right hand drive driver's seat from those cars. Probably dreadfully expensive though.

Been following eBay auctions for Genesis parts for several years, and have yet to see any seats offered. My sense is most "totaled" Genesis are eventually salvaged rather than parted. Do check salvage yard networks.

As for my comment on using hollow bar stock, I remember now I used it to raise the front mounts much higher than just simple washers on the embedded mounting bolt. I drilled holes through the bar stock. The bottom hole was bolted to the oem chassis bolt. I slipped in another bolt into the top hole; and now I had room for many more washers. The rear is easy. Just use longer bolts.
