If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I need some help. Mom clipped a trash can and broke the passenger side mirror. The plastic and mirror is cracked, but there is no damage to the door. I saw the damage when I visited, but couldn't handle it them. So I told her to take it to the dealer and let me know. They want to charge her $1248 for just the mirror, plus installation plus painting. From what I can see, that price seems high.

What is the typical cost and range for replacing that mirror? Is there some trim option that goes that high?

Hello and welcome. Unfortunately, we need more info. You would need to post clear photos that show the presence of or absence of any damage. Also, a copy of the appraisal along with the photos to back up that appraisal are necessary. Are you absolutely positive there's absolutely no damage?

Depending on where the damage could be, there may need to be blending of the right fender. Then you have to take into consideration masking, de-nibbing, and numerous other operations which body shops charge for.

Just getting a mirror? Look up the part number for the mirror and add an hour or two of the going labor rate of the shop you're mother's vehicle is at. That should end up being several hundred dollars. You might also be able to find a used part to save some money.

More info is necessary for better advice. The dealership wouldn't "paint" unless the door or another panel were damaged.

I'm a plane ride away, so photos aren't possible. I saw the damage first hand, nothing but the very edge of the mirror. She was turning so the speed was low. The turn lights on the unit still work.

The dealership didn't see the damage either. The $1248 was just for the mirror unit only. It does not include installation, painting or any of the other operations that might be included.

I did do a search online based on model, year and trim. Nothing that I am seeing is even close. They are so far off that I am wondering if I am missing something.

I see. Something doesn't sound right then. Does your mom have anyone she can trust to help her out there?

A bunch of little old men that are just as likely to be taken advantage of.

I am wondering if maybe I have the wrong trim package. It does have the camera, heating, power and side sensors. But still the max I am seeing is $550 OEM.

Not sure which insurance carrier she's with, but some carriers don't raise premiums for damage under a certain amount, i.e., $1K. Depending on her deductible, she can file a claim, pay her deductible, and have a body shop replace the mirror. This is an option as well.

That's an option, will have to see what dad set the deductible at. So for for what I am seeing, I can fly down there, fix the part, have a really good seafood meal, and fly home for hundreds less that just the part.

He said The plastic and mirror is cracked The plastic would be the outer housing. It has to be painted as they are in primer from the factory.

Before paying full cost for a new one I'd try the junk yard route and maybe a body shop to install it and paint.

There are 6 different part #'s alone for the passenger mirror on a 2015. They are getting you a little bit on the price of the mirror. The highest priced ones have a list of $965.84. I have a body shop that typically charges me around $60-70 for painting a mirror, and I've never had a problem with the color not matching the rest.

I'd try taking it to a body shop. They would only charge you list price for the mirror, and they would have more sources for finding a used one if you want to go that route. And body shop labor is a lot cheaper than a dealership.

Mine needs to be replaced and the new came unpainted so delayed installation. Does the outer shell just snap off? Nothing wrong with this mirror except an internal broken gear.

You might be able to find a used one of the same color much cheaper online like I did a few months ago. I paid $150 and replaced it myself with the help of YouTube University.
