  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I now have about 1K miles on my 4.6 Genesis and am very happy with its performance, ride and the "toys"! I have noticed a subtle rattle, or what I think is a rattle in the right front which sounds like a bad bushing in a tie rode end or a sway bar. Possibly it could be in the strut?? It is only noticeable on a rough road with what I would describe as a washboard or close series of rather hard bumps. It seems to be worse when rounding a bumpy corner. I am wondering if anyone else has heard anything like this and, if so, what it turned out to be. Maybe what I am perceiving is just the way the 4.6 Genesis suspension normally sounds!

Thanks for any thoughts some of you may have who understand the suspension on the 4.6 better than I do.

I do not have that problem on my car. Have you taken it to the dealer yet?

Thanks for being my straight man! Yes I did and it was a good experience. Keep in mind I used the word "perceived" because I know that many of the subtle things we like or dislike about cars is a matter of personal taste and perception. In any case, I went to the salesman and he immediately went with me and we drove the car down the street to the "test track" used by the Lexus dealer to try to find rattles perceived and real reported by owners. We both heard what am am describing in my 4.6 and he thought it was comming from the center to rear of the car. We took everything out of the trunk and looked at and moved the tool caddy and checked the spare. We then drove it over the frozen rough dirt area again and it seemed different, but still there. Then we went back to the dealership and got a new 3.8 (they didn't have another 4.6) and low and behold it did exactly the same thing. He thought I may have been hearing something like an exhaust hanger or the like. I also mentioned the the feeling of slight hesitation I have been noticing when coasting to a stop at a traffic light and he confirmed he had noticed the same thing. We both concluded that for the moment, we are talking about things that are subtle and are the nature of the beast. I agreed to give it some time. I feel better because I don't think I have something unique wrong with my Genesis.

Before I left, I stopped by the service counter and told the service writer this story and she seemed appreciative of what the salesman had done and asked some other questions about my experience so far. She promised to let me know if she heard more about any of these things. All in all I was happy with having gone in with my concerns and thought the dealer did just what the Lexus or Infiniti dealers I have dealt with would have done to be sensitive to my perceptions/realities.

All of the upscale cars I have owned starting with Oldsmobiles and Lincolns years ago and two Q45's and an LS430 and two Corvettes have had pros and cons and things I had to get used to. All in all, I am quite happy with this Genesis and think it is quite a value at the price point. I certainly can't complain about the dealer and think they do get it about handling Genesis customers. Clearly, some of breaking in a new car is getting used to its unique characteristics.

Some of us will own only one Genesis because we won't learn to like it. Others will buy more as Hyundai develops the brand. For now, I would liken this car to my 1991 Q45 which I loved because it was fast and responsive a a great deal of fun to drive for a sedan. However, let it rain or snow and she was a disaster. The Genesis isn't perfect, but I applaud Hyundai for the things they have gotten right and plan to enjoy myself instead of driving myself nuts with every little detail. I kind of like being part of a new venture. I was bored with Lexus. I kind of like it when my friends say, "you bought a Hyundai" ????

On the other hand, I do think they were a bit penny wise and dollar foolish in not putting AC in the passenger seat, the cheap feel of the trunk floor and tool caddy and some of the interior appointments like the visors and door pockets. I am also no fan of those Dunlop tires. Of course, that is exactly what came from the factory on my LS430.

By the way, there are two Hyundai dealers in my area and the one closer to my house never even got a salesman to me when I stopped by to see the Genesis. The other is the one I have been talking about. The difference between the two is night and day! It seems to me that the difference between Lexus and Infiniti dealers has been much more subtle. This doesn't surprise me considering what Hyundai is trying to accomplish! I did stop by another dealer in Baltimore and the sales guys did a fine job. I didn't consider buying there because they would budge from list price on the 4.6 and they were 100 miles from home.

All of this said, I haven't experienced the "pulling" to the left or right, extremely rough ride, excessive break squeal or any of the other issues I have been reading about on this forum. When and if I do I will be relentless in trying to get the issues resolved.
